Re: Shots fired in McKinney, Collin County Community College
After reading the thread this far, no one has apparently mentioned
the choice of arms that the bad guy had.
The news said he had a DRMS (correct spelling?) long gun in .223,
a shotgun (model not stated), and a .45 handgun (model not stated).
Some of you mentioned that the distance from shooter to the cop shop
was 50 yards. The news I saw said it was more like 200 yards. Some of the
MPD LEO's were using AR-15's.
The dead man's roommate said that the dead man was a security guard
at Oncor Wire (sp?) in McKinney, and due to his work, had had contact
with McKinney PD.
The .223 in question had been purchased about 4 years ago.
The fertilizer in the trailer came from his second job at a plant/tree nursery.

Re: Shots fired in McKinney, Collin County Community College
Wonder if the shooter had a CHL too? For several days there has been an evening talk show on 1080 AM that have had a field day with this incident. It sad that the actions of one moron seems to be the perception that all gun owners are 'gun nuts' from some of the idiotic talk I heard. Lets not look at the good situations of law abiding citizens legally owning guns and being safe and responsible.....lets focus on those rare situation where it goes bad and try to punish the good folks because of the actions of a few bad apples. The media annoys me.

The McKinney Public Safety Building is "C" shaped and on the north side of Taylor-Burke.
The truck and trailer were centered in the front parking lot, as far south as possible.
Directly south of the Public Safety Building is the Collin College Campus.
To the southeast is a large shopping center with Lowe's and Target.
There is a grove of trees between the college and the shopping center - this is where the shooter retreated.
Also of note are a neighborhood to the northwest, and 75 to the east.

Emerging reports continue to paint a picture of an offender with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness. See details here.

While I don't disagree with the conclusion, I question this diagnosis:Excaliber wrote:Emerging reports continue to paint a picture of an offender with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness.
"This sounds like someone who is psychotic, like someone on meth or GHB," said Paul Silver at the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Dallas and an associate professor at UT Southwestern Medical School.
"If it's not drug-induced, this guy sounds like a stoned psychopath," he said.

Ha ha ha. So if it isn't a drug-induced psychosis, then he sounds like he was in a drug-induced psychosis.WildBill wrote:While I don't disagree with the conclusion, I question this diagnosis:Excaliber wrote:Emerging reports continue to paint a picture of an offender with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness.

But what about considering alternative causes? You know, like drug-induced psychosis, maybe?

Here's an update on this story. The story did not state whether or not Mr. Patrick Gray Sharp had a CHL. He got his LEOSE license in 2001 and was licensed by the DPS as a security guard in 2004. At the time of the shooting, both licenses were expired. The article did speculate on his mental health nor did it report if any alcohol or drugs were in his system at the time of his death.

The quote may not have been accurate. If you take the "d" off the "stoned" you'd get a sentence that makes sense if the speaker believed the shooter was a psychopath, although that's a pretty big jump from the info we have.Hoi Polloi wrote:Ha ha ha. I'm not a shrink, but in my reading schizophrenia has historically been the more common diagnosis in the backgrounds of suspects in these types of events. Crimes like the Garland musician murders and the Ted Bundy serial murders correlate well with suspects with true psychopathic personalities.

Neither am I. There are many types of mental illnesses. IMO, from the earlier descriptions of Mr. Sharp's internet posts, he was suffering from something.Excaliber wrote:I'm not a shrink, but in my reading schizophrenia has historically been the more common diagnosis in the backgrounds of suspects in these types of events.
