I'm not a proponent of book burning, but I won't lose any sleep if I offend a muslim.

Why not, if you've done something genuinely offensive?

Speaking to the general question of whether or not this is a good idea.. Antagonizing people all over the world who aren't trying to kill us just to get under the skin of a few who are does not seem like the course of wisdom to me.

I've no interest in participating in a Koran burning - to me it seems childish and unsavory, something along the lines of little kids throwing rocks at a confined animal.

But here's a thought . . . "Moderate Moslems" will react about the same way most Christians do to reports of Moslems using Bible pages as toilet paper - they'll voice disapproval and condemn it in writing. If they're actually the reasonable moderates that so many claim they are, they'll see this as a response to Moslem desecration of Christian holies - and maybe they'll do something about church bombings, bans of Christians from entering Mecca, prohibitions of non-Moslem worship in Saudi Arabia, and so forth and so on.

The Moslems who go nuts and attack are not the moderates! If it sets off rioting and attacks on our troops, well, what a GREAT opportunity to make use of superior firepower. Maybe Petraeus ought to view this as a potential opportunity to smoke a lot of bad guys who maybe - just maybe - will openly attack us in their rage. If it provokes an open response - great. Time to relax the ROEs. (And if the response is more clandestine - IEDs and such - so what? They're doing as much of that as they can now anyway.)

Again, I think it's a bit on the silly side, but all this pontificating about "Better not offend Islam" seems equally silly to me.

My sincerest prayer would be that this misguided pastor and his church would come to the conclusion, on their own, that they should not do what they are proposing to do — for the very same reasons that thinking people of good will can object to the ground zero mosque — and that muslims would, in response, understand the massive affront that is the ground zero mosque, and as a countering act of goodwill, withdraw any plans to further pursue it.

I don't think that's what will happen though. I think that the church that has decided to burn a Quran will proceed with their decision to do so, because the decision was founded in narrow-minded ignorance; and you just can't cure stupid..

Unfortunately, in order to reach my sister-in-law's home, we have to drive past the "church" in question. She's having a lovely time right now, running the gauntlet past the news crews in order to get home or go about her daily life.

These people put their hatred right out on display for everyone to see. Their Christmas light display last year was a lit-up board proclaiming "Islam is of the Devil" and they sent their children to school wearing t-shirts with the same proclamation (then had the ACLU defending their right to do so)

Radicals of any persuasion aren't likely to be swayed by rational pleas.

I personally could care less about offending them. I do care about my own values, which are that I don't want to denigrate any religions holy books. I may not read them, I may not like what they say, but I respect the fact that someone that is looking at that book is actually trying to be a good person in front of God and in their hearts.

Can't do that now, though, because it offends our enemy. I can't find a link, but I remember a story where a US Marine put a video on YouTube of him dipping his ammunition in what he claimed to be pig's blood. He was promptly shipped home when his superiors found out about it.

Its not right to burn their "bible". Thats not what Jesus taught, its anthithetical, and it absolutely does nothing towards bringing folks to the truth. This "pastor" is wrong in what he is doing. This ranks right up there with protesting soldiers funerals. I dont know when this country lost civility or the definition of right and wrong but it was much better when we had a grasp on it. As I have said before the religious right is just as depraved as the secular left.

Indeed. A Christian who has malice, hatred, and a desire to offend is clearly not living his faith. While we must sometimes enter into just wars, using them as excuses to be offensive is not showing the love of Christ that one is called to always have in his heart, in his thoughts, and on his lips nor is it respecting the human dignity of one's enemies who were also made in the image and likeness of God.

Did they buy them? If so, then it seems they are supporting monetarily what they purport to hate.
Of course they have the right to do as they wish.

Though, I could see burning them or throwing them in the trash if they had already owned them as new converts to Christianity, not with the idea of hate, but with the idea presented in Acts 19:19.

I personallly disagree with this book burning, or the burning of any religous book although I do support their rights to do so without gvt intervention. If the liberal biased press did not make this a top story it would have just been local and would have been unoticed.

The liberals are going crazy over this, I sure wish they expended the same energy when the US flag is being burned in protest.....

When they go nuts, they go with bang someone has to clean up the mess. What I am saying you need less nuts so it would not be messy. Wise people make more friends not more enemies!
