Additional Census survey

Post by Tass »

Has anyone else been chosen (stalked) by the census people to participate (submit to questioning) in an additional survey? Did some looking online and evidently this is not a new thing, but I have a real problem with disclosing financials such as how much is my mortgage, insurance costs, utility bills, ets. Maybe it's just my nature to be contrary, but I don't want to answer. Some lady tried to corner me in the driveway Saturday as I was trying to unload groceries and get them in the house. Luckily a friend was waiting in the driveway with her 2 kids so we could go to lunch...2 kids eager to go in and visit the dogs (and 3 dogs eager to come out and see kids) makes for a loud conversation. Told her I didn't have time to talk to her and not to knock on my door anymore-as I don't open the door to strangers.

I answered the bare minimum on the original Census.
They came to my house, saying 'they needed a bit more'.
I was reluctant, but relented for a couple of questions.
Any more than that, Obama (or any other politician) will not be getting from me.
If I am not made to give it by law(and a followup census as I think you are talking about, is not law), they simply are not going to get it from me.

I received the short census form and filled it out as required by Constitution. I then received a much longer, much more intrusive, and much less Constitutional packet. I took it to work and shredded it. I received another a month later...lather, rinse, repeat. They left me alone after that and the census efforts pretty well ended nation-wide shortly thereafter. I don't blame you for your stances of a) not talking to her and b) not opening the door to strangers.

These people are relentless, I even got a FedEx delivery that someone would be contacting me to fill out the addtional information. You'd think they would build in to their model a number of non-responses. It's been a few months that these people have been coming by (at least a couple times/week).

We have a friend who worked for them as a "trainer". He was supportive of their effort (I'm not) to try to gather more detail but the stories that he told us confirmed that the whole effort is worse-than-normal on governmental organization.

I provided them minimal information on the form. A worker who struggled to speak English showed up at my house to gather more data. She did not indicate that she had any information from our original form and was not satisfied with my giving her only the information that we originally provided again. When she was unsuccessful with me at getting more, she went to our neighbor (who looks at things exactly like we do) and he wouldn't give her any more information either. I'm sorry but I speak English and expect any government worker who needs to communicate me on an official government project to speak English that I can understand, too.

The IRS has all of my financial data and I'm in compliance with all of the laws that govern it. The kind of people that they are hiring to do the census work, temporary at best and not particularly well vetted, do not need access to my information beyond the basic census requirement.

I relented and gave them my name (after only filling out the number of people in the house). They asked for more, I told them to leave.

I haven't heard from them since.

Never willingly disclose information you are not comfortable sharing to anyone that has no need for it, and no legal authority to obtain the information.

Scam artists play on the fact that many people don't want to be "rude", and, or, can be intimidated into revealing information useful to the scam artist. Don't be that person.

When I filled out the original survey, I didn't answer every question. Basically just number of adults living in the household. I'm wondering if that is the reason I got put on the 'additional information' list.

I only had answered two questions on the survey, I wonder if I'll be targeted for additional information.

I only filled out the "How many people live at this address?" question on the census form and returned it in April (?). Had a note hanging on my front door when I got back from vacation in July saying that the census taker wanted to "complete a census interview" that would take about 10 minutes. I set the note aside and forgot all about it until this thread popped up. I still don't think I'll call him back.
