I know in my experience (as a LEO), the media never gets the story right off the bat...

Give it time, the internal investigations paired with FBI investigations will get closer...odds are these cops will sue and get their jobs back - this is my opinion based on what is seen, and unseen in the videos.
If it's true they were ordered not to chase, and they did anyway, in violation of department policy, that may be enough reason to fire them.

Lets be honest...this video angle sucks and we cant say who is doing what beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The video is inconclusive imo as it neither justifies or condemns the actions of either party.

The suspect drops below the view of the camera before the officer uses his baton, so there is no evidence on camera that use of the baton was warranted, or not. Likewise with the hand strikes from the other officer.
OK... Now I'm TOTALLY convinced we are not watching the same video.

Here is the video I'm watching:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_ZodcsrJjo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Set it up to 480 and watch it frame by frame.

You can see the guy looking at the approaching officer as he is dropping to his knees. His hands are palms forward as he is dropping to his hands and knees. He is complying and the officer moves forward and POUNDS him with the baton while he is being totally submissive. After which he only gets defensive to the point that he is trying to shield himself from the blows.

I can capture the frames and annotate them if you want but I'm having a hard time believing I'm the only one who sees this. We are all watching the same video, correct?

Still not enough to CONCLUSIVELY tell what the defendant is doing...

Is he kicking, was there something that appeared to be a weapon on his person, was he verbally inviting the ofc to fight, was making movements towards the ofc's with his legs?

proof beyond the shadow of a doubt is a tough standard...much higher than "I saw the video on the internet and I think XXX"

Again, time will tell. Onto more speculation.

A civil case only requires preponderance of the evidence (more likely true than not). Some civil or criminal cases require clear and convincing evidence (substantially more likely true than not). The criminal cases they could face will require beyond a reasonable doubt (as sure that it is true as it is possible to be).

Look for a civil case to follow.

:iagree: I'd beat him just for the above. ;-)

Why did the LAPD leave early from the Lakers game?

So they could beat the crowd.

I disagree. It doesn't look like abuse to me. The perp was resisting arrest all the way, and the arresting officers got a few licks in during the takedown. You know what they say.... If you didn't want to go to Chicago, why'd you get on the train?
I'm not sure we are looking at the same video TAM. I swear I see the dude dive to the ground hands and knees first the officer on the right begins wailing away with the baton then the officer on the left lands knee first on his back then THEN I see the guy try to turn over to try to shield himself from the baton strikes then the officer on top begin pounding him with his fist. I never see the suspect throw a single blow.
We must not be looking at the same thing. The video I watched was about 95% chasing him, and about 10 seconds of subduing him. I am admittedly posting from a cellphone, and the video isn't that clear to me.

The charges against the motorcycle rider have already been dropped.

The video I've seen on the news showed the cruiser bumping the rear of the bike when already stopped and then the rider got off the bike and tried to prone himself on the ground. That's when one of the officers began hitting him. A couple seconds later another officer came in an began hitting or kicking him.

If the rider had already submitted and this attack began, wouldn't he be justified in attempting to defend himself? I find it odd that defending oneself against an attack is called resisting arrest. Attempt to make an arrest first and then if the person resists tack that on.

It may be PC, but it sure seems like the department has enough evidence to terminate and charge the officers. 22 officers show up for an unauthorized motorcycle chase. Of the officers involved in the attack, I think the news said that the most experienced officer had a little over 2 years experience.

The officers involved planned the attack. That will be their downfall even if the video is inconclusive.

I'm sad that he was only beaten for 15 seconds. Should have been 15 minutes.
Wow. What about the PO endangering lives by continuing a pursuit when they were ordered to back off. Do they deserve a beating too?by the way, it is cowardly to hit someone knowing they can't hit back. Both sides were out of line here.

Well doggone. I always knew we were paying all those judges salaries court costs and incarceration costs for nothing. Just let the cops judge, sentence and administer whatever justice they deem appropriate right on the spot.

Actually yeah, we are. I have zero sympathy for morons that decide running from the police is the best course of action. Sorry if you don't agree :tiphat:
He stopped. Period. No beating should have started for any period of time. He should have been cuffed and stuffed.

If some believe that beatings are "deserved" than I simply don't understand the outcry when someone does decide to resist arrest. Hey, they are going to beat me anyway so why not get a little joy out of dishing some out on the police?

I pray the people who support police brutality get it in abundance.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
