ignorant college debate over CHL in class PART 2 (never ends

Post by swc007 »

i have another story about ANOTHER criminal justice course i am currently taking... i have a test over weapon offenses... well we get to the part about where a CHLer can carry... (knew this was coming) professor asked the class of 100+ students to raise their hand if they thought carrying in the class room should be legal (about 40%) then when asked who is against concealed carrying in class... professor called on someone whos hand was raised.... this person said and i quote!!!!! "well say someone bought a gun 3 months ago and was in the right state of mind BUT now they gone crazy and have the gun in class and start shooting people!!!" :confused5 (makes not a lick of sense i know haha) my jaw dropped with amazement at how ignorant people are... wanted to ask how she made it into college "rlol" ...anyways i raised my hand praying i would be called on to fix this confusement AGAIN...but i was beat to the punch :boxing ... another guy set it straight pretty decent saying and i quote "that makes no sense (i laughed) if the person snapped and went crazy it wouldn't matter if he had a CHL or not... he would have brought the gun regaurdless and shot up the class if that was his plan... didn't need a CHL to perform that act." i would have added ( OTHERS in the classroom who had a CHL would of been able to stop him if CHLers were allowed to carry in the classroom lol) when prof. asked who in the class had a CHL out of 100+ people 3 or 4 hands raised up (i didn't raise mine because i don't want people knowing i have a gun on me around town)

i know guys its crazy what people say these days

Same thing when I was in college. It wasn't a criminal justice course but my professor was an avid chl carrier and expressed how he hated the so called safety of a college gun free campus. We briefly talked about it in a college class and yes there were many people who believed that a CHL holder could just snap at any minute and kill everyone. Like you said “anyone can do that” you don’t need a CHL to go crazy. You were right not to raise your hand when asked if you have a CHL. Only a few friends know I have a CHL and so do my family members and I think that is already too many.

What you have to remember is that some people think that CHL holders think they live in the Wild West. They think we are looking for a fight or to cause trouble. I personally avoid all trouble. If someone cuts me off on the road I let it be. If someone cursed or insulted me in public for some reason I would just walk away and not even acknowledge them. I am pretty much non confrontational. As long as people don't try to hurt my loved ones or I they can be as stupid or say what ever they want.

I've been seriously impressed with the increasing number of folks around me with advanced degrees (including teachers in college) who tell me they have, or are planning to have, a CHL. These are folks who are noticing what's happening around them, 'nuff said. :cheers2:

Therein lies a major problem whether on campus or off. Why are so many so anxious to shoot people? While there are those who definitely need to be shot, A CHL is not a Batman license.

People have this tendency to believe that other people think the same way that they do. Rush said it a few years ago - if you want to know what a politician (or anyone else, for that matter) is trying to hide, look at what they're quick to accuse others of doing. Some people believe that CHL'ers have a "wild-west shoot-first mentality" because that's how THEY would react in a stressful situation if they were armed.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Actually, I was referring to some of the shoot 'em up posts that frequently appear on this otherwise august forum.

Whenever I'm faced with the "CHLer could go crazy/guns scare me because they hurt/kill" argument, I like to look them straight in the eye and say in an even voice, "Do you really think I would need a gun if I wanted to kill you?" Then I just kinda let it sink in. :biggrinjester:

Their response usually looks like this: :???: then  then :leaving

I read somewhere that there was LESS violent crime in the "wild west" than there is now even allowing for the vast increase in population. WE are the wild west.

You can also bring up the fact that LEOs can carry in class (I do). Campuses are definitely not gun free, just overly restricted.

How do we know that when I pass in front of your car in the crosswalk you won't just gun it and run me over?...or that you'll respond to my icy stare and stop while I'm jaywalking?...you might put rat poison in my drink all crazy like?

I'm no more likely to shoot you than randomly walk up and hit you...or for that matter even so much as touch you. And we're the paranoid ones?

No one has ever "just snapped." There is always things leading up to it and plenty of pre-violence indicators to be seen by those willing to.

Well do you your part and cancel out her vote next election. I love doing that, I will find a liberal I know and call them and let them know I canceled out their vote. It makes me smile because it brings a very personal perspective to it.
