CA: Federal LEO hospitalized after injury at shooting range

Post by seamusTX »

In Castro Valley, California (Oakland area), within the hour, a federal LEO was hospitalized after suffering an injury at a shooting range. No further details at this time, but you read it here first. ;-)

Possibly working in a shoot house?

When we do live fire in a shoot house we wear our vests...but that covers a certain area...just a guess...

It's been a long time since I have been there, I don't believe this range has a shoot house.

Shoot houses are generally on closed ranges, are they not?

This incident occurred on a publicly owned range: http://www.chabotgunclub.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nice place.

More recent news.

The person was not a Federal LEO as originally reported. A Camp Parks Officer accidently shot himself in the leg during "regualr training". He is the hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.

I don't know the injured man's employment status, but Camp Parks is an Army Reserve facility. It is named after Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks, USN.

The name sounds deceptively like something recreational.

Maybe he is an Army officer and not an LEO. :???: Or maybe both? :???: An Army Reserve facility named after an Admiral? :???:

Who knows? The feds have so many layers of officialdom.

Camp Parks was originally a U.S. Navy facility, as explained in the link that you posted. It was a transit point for Seabees during WW II. My father may have gone through there on his way to the Aleutians. No one currently alive would know.

CASTRO VALLEY -- A Camp Parks police officer was airlifted to a hospital this morning after receiving an accidental gunshot wound to his leg.

Most military facilities have both civilian and military law enforcement. This is, in addition, to the armed security at the gate ('gate guard'). They are employed by private contractors, however, they have authority to detain until facility law enforcement arrives. At some installations they are also referred to as 'officers'.

Add in the reliability of the press.................... and who knows?
