Just Started my Application

Post by Moshbmx1 »

As the title states I just started my application for my CHL tonight and think I am on the right track but wanted some advice from the professionals. Filled out the online application and am scheduling a FAST fingerprint scan for next Monday down in. Then am going to take the class there soon after. At the class I will get all of the rest of the supporting documents that I need correct? Plus I will have my fingerprints already on file with the state so their will be no need to have them done at the class and avoid the possibility of them being rejected. I just want to make sure that their is nothing that I am missing with the process. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum Chris. :tiphat:

It sounds like you're on the right track so far.
The only other thing..(if it applies to you) is that you will need
documentation of any arrests that you may have had...(if any).

If you have no prior brushes with the law then you should be good to go.

One last thing. Check and triple check your application thoroughly before
mailing it in. Make sure you haven't left any areas blank.

Thanks for the welcome!
Luckily and thankfully I haven't had any brushes with the law in my years of growing up, all 23 years. By application do you mean the one that I filled out online or is their a different application?

Since you're doing the new one online there won't be a paper application for you to send in anymore. You will get your passport photos/holder and since you're doing FAST fingerprints that should be it. I hear FAST doesn't sign the photos anymore so you should be good.

Yep, got fast done last week and didnt have to sign for it, just took my picture, did the prints and was out in about 10 minutes. Now all I have to do is take the class and send it all in and wait

Well, took my CHL class today. Was a long day but the instructors were extremely nice and laid back. Went over a lot of vital information and really made the day enjoyable despite the 100+ deg day. Now the wait begins.

Congratulations on completing your vital first step.

Hanging around here will help pass the waiting time..
And if your not careful, you might accidentally pick up a few tips along the way. ;-)

Thanks! It was more of a last step :anamatedbanana I filed the online app last month and did my FAST prints so all I had left to do was take the class. I wanted to do as much online/electronically so I knew it was done right and wouldn't come back to me after I sent it in. Does anyone know what the expected wait time is? I know it was 2-3 months but didnt know if the DPS got their butts in gear and sped it up.

Some of the turn around times people have been getting lately seem to have been much faster than in the past. I'm not sure of a definite average, but I've seen a number of people who are getting sub 40 day turn arounds who sent their apps in over the past few months. Of course, there are others who have been much longer. Not sure if anyone is sure about what factors impact the turn around time the most. Probably just whoever's desk your application happens to land on.

Of course, a squeeky clean record and all your paperwork being in order the first time will surely help, and it seems you have both of those squared away. People have said that the online status typically has shown up after about 2 weeks from the DPS receiving your application. It was 1 week for me, so hopefully you'll get a similar timeline so you can at least stalk the DPS site daily looking for approval like me.

8/26/2010: Fingerprints Approved
8/31/2010: Background Check Complete
9/2/2010: Mailed
