I get the whole idea of a "Batman license", but in the instance of a school, church, mall, courthouse ect. shooting, I'm not going to stand by or run away if I can do something. If I hear shots fired down the hallway I'm not going to run the other way, but I'll start moving towards the threat. If he's got a rifle, then yes, he'll have an advantage, but that's what training is for. There is nothing wrong with moving in to eliminate a threat and save lives, and this action should not be portrayed as a negative. If you don't want to risk your life to save other's then thats completely understandable, but someone who is willing to respond to a threat, even if their life is not in immediate danger, is still acting correctly, and this sort of action should not be discouraged.

Obviously there is a sliding scale, and no one is advocating listening to a police scanner all day to find bad guys to shoot (this is more along the lines of a Batman license).

Perhaps instead of Batman the word should be hero. Batman never dies, heroes do all the time.

I'm going to have to respectively disagree with the "police force of one" idea. You cannot call for back-up, you cannot communicate with law enforcement and you will quite possible stir up a hornet's nest that could cause more collateral fatalities. This is ABSOLUTELY NOT what personal protection is about and certainly not what is taught in our CHL training. Going out of your way to enter and participate in a gunfight is simply vigilantism and an absolute validation of how the left has portrayed us.

Even if we were just as well trained and experienced (like a combat vet) would a cop walk into a combat theatre alone without calling for back-up, armed with only a .40 caliber handgun and NO idea what's actually going on?

Sorry, not sure I believe that. To the cops on the board, how often does the average patrolman go to the range? I know I personally try to put at least 50-100 rounds down range every month, at a minimum. Just curious how often cops really go to the range.

Granted, I assume someone like SWAT gets in lots of range time. But the most likely first responder is going to be a CHL holder or a patrolman. Which one practices more?

I do a couple hundred a month too, but I just shoot nice, quiet, non-ambulatory paper targets. Sure, a rookie may not know how to react very well, but I would guess that even the most talented veteran on a police force wouldn't run in to save the day without any back-up or communication. Still, I think my range time would help me if I had a clear shot and needed to take out a threat that came to me.

SlickTX wrote:In today's Dallas Morning News opinion page there are two opinions offering a point/counterpoint on campus carry. The writer advocating no campus carry (a psych prof at UT) uses an argument that the CHL holders, having their Superman t-shirts under their school clothes, will start popping off indescriminately once the shooting begins in an effort to ride to the rescue. His point is that the risk of bystanders being shot,of other CHL "responders" being shot or LEOs being shot outweighs the benefits of allowing concealed carry.

He goes on about the average CHL holder, as opposed to LEOs, does not practice as much and is likely to choke at the time of need.

Both of these arguments completely miss the point of concealed carry. That point being carry for personal defense (or defense of loved ones) when there is no reasonable way out of a bad situation that has become VERY personal.
How many CHLs put on Superman suits at the State Capitol shooting?
I suspect it was the lack of phone booths so they couldn't change, but I heard of no added chaos due to licensees.

Eventually Texas will be made to comply with the U.S. Constitution. It is only a matter of how many more innocent people will have to die needlessly because of the greed and phobias of the elected officials in this state.

Caution long rant!

If the CHLer goes to:
-The Mall
-The Movies
-Texas Govn. Offices
-Public Parks
-ETC., ETC.

The CHLer is Perfectly OK and Good Citizens.

---BUT!!!
If they walk into a school building or classroom They Suddenly change into a monster, Danger to All!!!
YET!, if they walk out of that building/classroom Then Suddenly they are changed back into OK and Good Citizens again.

OBVIOUSLY, We should immediately, DESTROY all the school buildings and classrooms since they are CERTIFIED to be so inherently dangerous by THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF SCHOOL ADMIN. of the schools and colleges themselves.

-----------------------------------------------

WHY ARE THE SCHOOLS/COLLEGES MAKING UP TEXAS STATE LAW????
WHY ARE THEY HAVING ANY SAY, AT ALL, WHERE OR WHAT CHLers ARE DOING???

CHL should be controlled by the STATE OF TEXAS - ONLY. PERIOD!

Schools/colleges are NO different than any other Texas State offices and should be following the EXACT SAME LAWS.

If we have a Texas CHL, then we are investigated and cleared by the F.B.I. and the State of Texas so we should NOT have to seek permission from a state school -PERIOD!
AND
its NONE of the schools business in any way -PERIOD!

--------------------------------------------------------

CHLers on campus Look EXACTLY like everyone else.
So no shooter would know who they are - AND THAT IS THE MESSAGE ANY SHOOTER NEEDS TO GET - LOUD AND CLEAR!

-------------------------

The Finest thing the schools/colleges can do is -

WELCOME THE CHLers,
-TO MAKE THE CAMPUS A SAFER PLACE, INSTEAD OF BEING A KILLING FIELD.

-----------------------------

Campus carry is working great in Utah and others.

We Really NEED to get a lot of things DONE in 2011

Regards,
Blue

Rant OFF!

Copy and paste this and put it in there and it should work:
