Here's an FYI for evading anyone who approaches in a vehicle:steve817 wrote:I told her the only thing she didn't do that she probably should have done was told one of those adults. Maybe they would have thought to get a license plate number. It may be a good thing that she didn't though, with the plate number I could have had his address in about 5 minutes. That may not have ended so well.
Most bad guys won't go more than about 75 feet from their vehicles on a public street, and almost never out of sight under these circumstances, for a crime where they intend to forcibly put the victim in the vehicle.
A successful tactic is to create distance as quickly as possible in a place the vehicle can't go. In a neighborhood, that would mean running between houses at 90 degrees to the street and through backyards (unless fencing prevents this).
If pursued, make lots of noise: "Help! Get away from me! Call the Police - I don't know him!"
It's pretty difficult to get even a young child who's kicking, biting, and screaming dragged out of back yards and back to a car without an excellent chance that someone will recognize what's going on and intervene.
