These databases get really screwed up.

People use different names (like Jim and James) or women who divorce or remarry. Addresses change. The post office changes ZIP codes.

Sometimes databases are just plain wrong.

A friend of mine moved into a building that had been converted from commercial to residential. When she changed her address with the voter registrar, the Texas Secretary of State's database would not allow the change.

I'm almost certain that I'm registered, and that my voter registration card was sitting on the bar. In my mind, I can clearly see two blue voter registration cards, since my wife and I put both cards there. Certain that Chuck must be wrong, I went to get my card and put it in my wallet. The cards weren't there. My wife and I have turned the house upside down looking for those cards. How did Chuck know? We're going to register (re-register?) this evening.
Are you sure Chuck has his facts straight? (I know, I'm dancing on dangerous ground here...) My wife got a letter from Chuck that she isn't registered either, so I went to the website that ELB referenced above, and we are both, in fact, registered. Odd.

Someone must be giving Chuck bad intel. I feel sorry for what's left of them when he gets done.

During the Presidential election I walked in to vote and they said "you're not registered". They gave me a short form to fill out and I was able to cast my vote. So, if a person misses this deadline, wouldn't they still be able to vote anyway like I did?
I filled one of those out one year after having registered to vote when I moved back to Texas from Hawaii, but apparently the registration was not processed (thanks DMV and the motor voter law). I got a letter in the mail several weeks after the election informing me my vote was not counted because my last legal voter registration was in Hawaii.

So, make sure you are properly registered so you're not disenfranchised like I was.

I mailed in an address change on Wednesday, since y'all reminded me! Thanks!

The system already reports my new address. These guys are fast.

Good to know, ready to vote.

Oh! Since this is the voting thread, does anyone have a good location for information on EVERY candidate in specific districts?
I want to fix the situation I had last time, where I didn't know half of the people on the voting block.

As far as I know, there is no such site. Every precinct is in a patchwork of federal, state, and local districts with different candidates and also referenda and bond issues.

Someone please inform me if I'm missing something.

Around here, the League of Women Voters used to publish a pretty good guide. However, the group died for lack of interest.

I just checked the TSRA's site, and even though they said the Voting guide would be available for viewing after the 1st, it's not up yet.

The TSRA voter guide should be on http://tsrapac.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but it isn't yet. It's published on paper in the TSRA Sportsman September/October 2010 issue, which I got in the mail a couple of days ago.

However, that covers only state and federal candidates. You have to watch out for the crooks and kooks as your local level. ;-)

Received the TSRA voter guide link in email either yesterday or today. Looked it over, very few surprises. Doesn't change any of my votes.
