Our daughter’s friend called at 6:52am stating that our daughter’s boyfriend was hitting on her. We told her to dial 911 and we were on our way. We got out of bed, got dressed then drove 3 miles to her apartment it is now 7:05am. No police have arrived yet. We secured the area. The boyfriend had runoff after breaking out a window. My wife was treating our daughter’s cuts and bruises. I stepped outside to wait for the PD to arrive. As I stood there an officer drove by and never even looked our way. I went in and called the PD Dispatch and asked when they may arrive? I was told that they were investigating a shooting and it would be awhile. I said a few choice words but was not disrespectful or rude. A unit finally showed up at 7:35pm.

Our daughter will be okay with cuts, bruises and black eyes, but it could have been worse.

Now I will tell you that our daughter did not choose the person I would have chose for her but it is her choice. Hopefully she has learned from this mistake.

All law abiding citizens have the right to bear arms and should also have the right to Carry a Concealed weapon for protection.

By the way, there has never been anything on the news about a shooting that weekend

I'm sorry your daughter went through that ordeal and that you and your wife have to worry about your "child." I too hope she will consider arming herself and getting trained. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but knowing how to shoot doesn't mean you know how to fight.

I'll pray for her recovery physically and emotionally and for her safety.

As has been discussed many times on this board, the police have no legal duty to protect any individual person. Their duty is to society as a whole.

This is yet another reason why we should all have the means to protect ourselves.

This is why we must protect our Rights and make sure that our elected officials understand this.
Bad things will happen. We can not blame the tool, we must hold the "tool user" accountable for using that tool in a criminal way.
I don't believe that anyone will ban a hammer or a baseball bat, or a kitchen knife with a point on it just because it was misused.

License the sale of non-domestic knives
Ban the purchase of non-domestic knives, other than from a licensed seller
Ban the sale of swords
UK Scotland bans guns, so the criminal use what ever they can get. Now, disarming the law abiding citizen, makes the criminal bolder and more violent.

The Scot government stated: The licensing scheme was brought in to help the government control the supply of knives and prevent weapons from getting into the wrong hands.
That won't happen, just take them from the hands of the law abiding.
They even ban air guns. I hear the faithfull spud-gun is next, i bet they are looking into placing restrictions of particularly hard potatoes.
Look at Australia! A $1000 on-the-spot fines if caught carrying an illegal knife on the street. Would my Swiss Army Knife count as a illegal knife??
The Victorian government has also expanded search and seizure powers to enable police to conduct random weapons searches in designated public areas without notice.

What's the old saying "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away." What I want to know is how is society served by showing up late to a crime in progress?

I don't know what PD you are aggravated with(and rightly so), but when I served with Pasadena PD(just East of Houston) our AVERAGE response time was less than 5 minutes. If our sector cars had been busy with a felony call as you described, we would have either dispatched the rover units or pulled a unit from a different sector to handle the call. It would NOT have been a 30 minute wait.

The problem, even with a "good to excellent" response time as we had, is that when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
