Renewal Question

Post by magillapd »

I tried a search, but I didn't have luck. A friend of mine is ready to renew his CHL for the first time. It expires 3-2-2011. He asked me if he'd lose 4 months if he renewed too soon. My thinking is no, because it is set to expire on the DOB. I just wanted to post this first. My thinking is he can go take his renewal course and pay online and his next license would expire on 3-2-2016. Can somone tell me if I am correct. Also, would he be able to take class/pay online now or does he have to wait until 30 days out?

[quote="cbr600"]411.183. EXPIRATION.
(a) A license issued under this subchapter expires on the first birthday of the license holder occurring after the fourth anniversary of the date of issuance.
(b) A renewed license expires on the license holder's birthdate, five years after the date of the expiration of the previous license.[/quote

So, I was right about the expiration. What about the 2nd question, is 6 months out too early to re-qual/submit for renewal?

Not at all. Better to have new plastic in hand before other expires.

They may or may not have his renewal information online 6 months before the expiration. I was in much the same situation as your friend and my renewal information did not show up online right at 6 months prior.

The renewal class is good for six months AFAIK so he can take the class now and keep checking the website if he wants to do an online renewal.

Or he can get a Utah license. :lol: :lol: :razz:
