CHL Forum Day open invite: Shoot my .357, 4" Rossi, my ammo.
To all forum friends and guests:
My EDC is a PT-111, a workaday little semi-auto that goes bang
all the time, but is a relative pussycat shooting 9MM.
But my truck gun and BUG is a Rossi 971, 4" barrel, .357 Magnum
revolver, 6 round cylinder. It's a bear with the hotter loads.
Since it's a .357 Magnum it can shoot .38 Special or .357 Magnum.
With .38 Special it has manageable recoil, but when you fire
.357's you need to expect a high recoil and loud experience,
unlike the .380,9MM,.40, or .45's that most of us shoot in our
EDC's.
For those who would like to fire this revolver, using my ammo,
I offer an open invitation this Saturday, 10/23/10. I am doing
this to offer a new shooting experience to those who are not
familiar with a wheelgun shooting a hot round. You will be able
to determine for yourself if a .357 is actually a round you'd
consider in your carry piece.
I expect that anyone attending Texas CHL Forum Day has a
CHL and a reasonable amount of handgun shooting experience.
I will have 2 little plastic cups. One is marked ".38 Special"
and the other is marked ".357 Magnum". I will give anyone who
wants to shoot this gun a cup of each with 6 rounds in them.
The idea is to shoot a cylinder full of .38, then shoot the 2nd
cylinder full of .357 Magnum. It's like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! :-)
This is my little way to meet some of you that I may only know
by screen name and add to your handgun shooting experience.
If y'all want to let me shoot your handguns, that would be great,
but not required.
USA1 has first dibs on borrowing the .357. I'll be at the Texas
Star in between mini-clinics. If it's a dry day, I'll be wearing
my white Stetson and my Texas flag golf shirt.
Don't be a stranger - Come say howdy and take some shots
with my hand cannon!!!

One of these years I may make it down there for the party, but its just not in the cards right now......I've still got happy memories of our little North Texas informal get together, though. Bunch of good folks!
Ya'll have fun!!

SIA, wish I could be there, but I'm unable. I'd take you up on the offer only if you'd let me reciprocate with my Kahr PM 40. Hope a good time is had by all.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:To all forum friends and guests:

Re: CHL Forum Day open invite: Shoot my .357, 4" Rossi, my a
SIA, that is a great offer. I would like to shoot the .38 but I'm not sure about .357. I was in the Bass Pro shop practicing before my CHL class when all of a sudden, it sounded like the place was under artillery attack. That range is a bit resonant for my tastes to start with and I discovered that the source of heavy fire was coming from a couple of lanes down. It turned out to be a fairly petite woman. I asked her what she was shooting an she said a wheel gun with .357 loads. When I said "wow", she smiled and told me not to make fun of her daily carry.
I'll look you up. I'd be happy to let you shoot mine but I'm not sure that it would be all that exciting for you. It is just a Sig 9mm.

I won't be stingy though. I'm sure I'll get my turn.

BTW, I have a bunch of spare .38 that I'll be bringing.

Tell you what... After you shoot your 32 oz hand cannon, I'll let you shoot my 13 oz .357 "pack howitzer" — just to shake things up a bit.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:Come say howdy and take some shots

lonewolf - Sorry that you can't make it. CHL Forum Day is a hoot.
pumaguy - Sorry that you can't make it either. Shooting anything different
is always a learning experience. Your Kahr PM40 is something I've never shot.
chasfm11 - If you want to just try my wheelgun with just .38, that's fine. After
shooting my .357 on several range trips, I find it unique that a woman would
choose it to be her EDC. Shooting your Sig 9MM should give me some insight
into why there are so many Sig fans, and why federal LEO's seem to favor 'em.
terryg - I'll look forward to meeting you. I don't know what your EDC is.
USA1 - Well, thanks for mentioning that you are bringing extra ammo, but I have
150 rounds of .38 Special and 150 rounds of .357 Magnum. I figure that 300 rounds
for the revolver should be enough for me to let a lot of folks "have at it" on the
Texas Star.
TAM - You have a 13 ounce gun that shoots .357? I can feel my wrist breaking already.
This isn't a zip gun, is it? :-)
IIRC - This .357 of yours is a snubby, and the only gun of yours that has a name - "Big Poppa"??
Did I get the name correct?

Everyone coming to Texas CHL Forum day:
I have two boxes, 50 rounds each, of Federal FMJ, 180 grains, that I can't use.
Anyone who needs more .40 - see me and I'll sell it to you for the Wal-Mart price I paid.
By the way, just because I mentioned in the OP about 6 rounds of each revolver ammo, don't
think I'm stingy. I'll let you shoot as much as you wish, as long as everyone gets a turn.
Oh, also, if austinrealtor or any other person with revolver experience shoots my gun, I'd like
you to give me your impressions on its cylinder lockup and trigger.
By the way, does anyone have a trigger pull measuring device? I don't know what the pounds
of pull are on the Rossi. I know my PT111 is 7.0 pounds.
Over and out for now. We are leaving early Friday AM from Lewisville, stopping in to
Blue Bell Ice Cream in Brenham for the 10 AM or 11 AM tour, then continuing on to Friendswood
(95 miles from Blue Bell). I'm planning on being at Friendswood PSC at 500 PM, and we will
be attending the Deadly Force Seminar.
It's 715 PM Thursday night and I will not be checking the board before Forum Day travel.

SIA, great idea. I'll bring my Walther PPS in 9mm for anyone who'd like a go.
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

I managed to wrangle up my FIL's Taurus Judge for anyone that wants to put a round or two through it. I don't know, however, how PSC would handle the 410 shells. Would we need to go to the shotgun area to fire the 410's but stay in the pistol area for 45 long??
