Richland College

Post by RPB »

I'm just too mad to respond to this right now. Sounds like they are blaming school shootings on licensees.

Richland College, Dallas.

I'm only posting portions of this editorial, to read the rest, click the link

Keep your firearms off campus
http://www.richlandchronicle.com/keep-y ... -1.1677262" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The University of Texas, Virginia Tech University and Columbine High School – each of these schools has one thing in common: students have taken guns onto campus and shot at innocent victims. And these are not the only schools where shootings have occurred.
With the tragedies of some of these shootings still fresh in our minds, the Chronicle staff believes that no one except the campus police should be allowed to bring firearms to school. This includes those who have a valid concealed handgun license

The Second Amendment of the Constitution states that citizens have the right to "keep and bear arms." This means you have the right to own a gun, and if you have a license, have that gun on your person. It is a privilege to have that right and it should not be abused. Unfortunately, people do abuse that right and the result is dreadful.
...
the regulations need to extend beyond the classroom. Background checks need to be made anywhere it is possible to buy a gun, including gun shows and pawn shops. Gun owners should also go through the same training that individuals who receive a concealed handgun license need.

Any one of us has the potential to save a life, but as far as weapons go, let's leave the gun slinging to the professionals.

Dr. Suzanna Hupp's dad "had potential"
"It is a privilege to have that right" ........ huh?
I usually respond to these school paper articles, but ..... sheesh, lots of "red herrings" to address in that one. Reminds me of some lawyers I've seen in Court before (no offense to anyone, in fact, if you are a lawyer, you know what I mean, you've seen them too)

Read the whole article at the link above

{Sigh}

These people have 1st Amendment rights. Sadly, they don't realize that their 1st Amendment rights were bought by our 2nd Amendment rights. Let it slide, they're just kids playing at being grown-ups.

Yeah, I try to read all the Texas college newspapers a couple times a week, by http://governor.state.tx.us/music/direc ... ss/pressc/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but it's amusing that the schools who advise that "all you need for security, is to be more aware of your surroundings" seem to be the same ones most promoting legalizing marijuana ..... I'm like isn't that a contradiction?

That's the same logic on the US consulate's website to Mexico "How to avoid being a victim, guns are illegal"
and that other country oh yeah, California.

So, the folks that say someone may flip are really afraid that if they had a gun they themselves may flip out? It is truly amazing how this fearful author went from a "right" to a "privilege" in one sentence.

The UNT article was pretty good, but someone should remind the author that in Texas it is a CHL, not CCW. Maybe he's from out of state.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Yeah, I got the impression he's either from out of State, college student, or just recently started thinking about getting his own CHL when he turns 21 maybe; and doing some "internet research" which encompasses lots of States.
Sounds like he is more favorable than not, though still presenting some anti-statistics, trying to be balanced, yet not finished researching stats etc., nor knowing as much as he could about the Texas CHL yet.

What an awful article.

It was published 10/11 and has no coments.

I voted in the online pole on the page so I could view the results and only 3 votes have been cast.
Not a very widely read news outlet.

I know that most college newspapers aren't widely read, I usually comment on them anyway because these WRITERS are possibly future journalists who may sway others' opinions in the future in newspapers and television, and any reader could later be a future politician or business owner, and schools are "supposed to" educate, therefore, I try to do my part to educate with facts and logic, rather than mis-information and opinion that so many "learn".
