Improper Signage in Galveston
This is at Galveston City Hall, on the 25th Street entrance. No mention of 30.06 along with the good ol "gunbusters" logo. So do I carry away even though this is Government property? I've been playing it safe and not carrying because its government property.

That ordinance is 15 years old and it looks like the sign is also. It was made inoperative by the passage of PC 30.06 and Local Government Code §229.001.

The hang-up is that there is a municipal courtroom in the city hall annex that is used for traffic court a couple of days a month.
How lucky do you feel?

Same here in Lufkin only ours is open all day every day. They accept pmt at the window so everything in there is off limits. Cant even pay your water bill.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Needless to say, it stinks that having municipal court that mostly hears traffic tickets should put an entire 5-story building off limits. Obviously if you're going to pay your water bill or get a building permit, it has nothing to do with the court.
Perhaps the legislature will clarify the law, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Improper Signage in Galveston
Same in Burnet "pay Court fines here" window near (20 feet to the left and behind you on the far end of the hallway's Tee-intersection where you would turn left in that hall to go to the Court) the "Pay Utilities here" window, and Municipal Court is also inside, way down a hall, around the corner from the Utility payment window, but they have no sign, no warning that any Court is inside, not even a "Court inside" sign ... and there is no warning sign of any type that guns of any type are not allowed inside.. The ONLY sign is "Burnet Municipal Offices" (Last year, I considered telling them to put up a sign on the front door just saying there is a Court inside, but ...)
However, at the COUNTY Courthouse and annex, they do have those old signs, and Metal Detectors in the Annex where the DPS driver's license and County Tax assessor/collectors office for getting license plates are off limits/past the metal detectors.
I need to get a picture of the probably unenforceable sign at our County Appraisal District ... I'll do that this week if I can. It's on the "town square, a/k/a the "Courthouse square", along with other shops and restaurants, visitors bureau and the library and a courthouse annex, and an office supply store, and barber shop and bank on another side of the square.
That sign, on 8.5"x11" paper, says something like
"Concealed handguns are illegal in this building except for licensed law enforcement officers and any violation will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law".
Makes me chuckle every time I see it.
Burnet's criminal prosecutor and County Attorney "considers it" part of the Courthouse across the street from it, I "consider it" part of the mental health counseling doctor's offices next door to it, or the antique store maybe, because an old lady works there. They have a coffee pot there, perhaps it's part of the Restaurant on the square? The "courthouse annex" is half a block away, around a corner, between a clothing store and an empty space.

Re: Improper Signage in Galveston
A major problem with this kind of signage is that it indicates a municipal or county ordinance, that generally can be only a class C misdemeanor. However, carrying a weapon in a courthouse is a third degree felony. Given that these courtrooms are often obscure and not used often, state law should require adequate notice.

I think that sign at the bottom means "no 1911's" since that is what they are picturing. Must be a pro-Glock bias.LongHairedRedneck wrote:This is at Galveston City Hall, on the 25th Street entrance. Come to think of it, I may put the same sign on my gun safe just to remind myself not to buy a 1911.

KAty,
That aint a 1911. Go ahead and get you one. You won't regret it.

One hopeful sign for Galveston County (now that we no longer live there) is that Jim Yarbrough was defeated by Mark Henry as county judge. Some things may change.

Nope. It's a Beretta 92 or 96. It must mean "No Police."Katygunnut wrote:I think that sign at the bottom means "no 1911's" since that is what they are picturing. Must be a pro-Glock bias.
