Veteran's Day Thanks

Post by CWOOD »

I cannot properly express my appreciation for the service or the debt owed so I have included the words of a few others who are much better at expressing it than I am.

My Dad is a 94 year old World War II veteran. I have printed the following in a four page format and am posting it around his residence today.

God bless you every one.

Regards,
Carl

VETERAN’S DAY
11-11-2010

AMERICA:
THE HOME OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

THE TRUE SOLDIER FIGHTS NOT BECAUSE HE HATES WHAT IS IN FRONT OF HIM, BUT BECAUSE HE LOVES WHAT IS BEHIND HIM

THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING

COURAGE IS BEING SCARED TO DEATH AND SADDLING UP ANYWAY.

DO YOU CARE ABOUT FREEDOM?
DREAMS MAY HAVE INSPIRED IT, AND WISHES PROMPTED IT, BUT ONLY WAR AND WEAPONS HAVE MADE IT YOURS.

A MAN WHO HAS NOTHING FOR WHICH HE IS WILLING TO FIGHT,
NOTHING HE CARES MORE ABOUT THAT HIS OWN PERSONAL SAFETY,
IS A MISERABLE CREATURE WHO HAS NO CHANCE OF STAYING FREE UNLESS HE IS MADE AND KEPT SO BY THE EXERTIONS OF BETTER MEN THAN HIMSELF.

IN ASCENDING ORDER THE QUALITIES OF PATRIOTISM ARE:
1. TO WORK, FIGHT, OR DIE FOR YOUR OWN SURVIVAL
2. TO WORK, FIGHT, OR DIE FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY
3. TO WORK, FIGHT, OR DIE FOR A GROUP, EXTENDED FAMILY, TRIBE OR CLAN
4. TO WORK, FIGHT, OR DIE FOR A GROUP TOO LARGE FOR ALL INDIVIDUALS TO KNOW EACH OTHER
5. TO WORK FIGHT OR DIE FOR A WAY OF LIFE

AND I’M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN
WHERE AT LEAST I KNOW I’M FREE.
AND I WON’T FORGET THE
MEN WHO DIED
WHO GAVE THAT RIGHT TO ME.

COWARDS DIE MANY TIMES BEFORE THEIR DEATHS;
THE VALIANT NEVER
TASTE OF DEATH BUT ONCE.

IT IS FOOLISH TO MOURN THE MEN WHO DIED. RATHER, WE SHOULD THANK GOD THAT SUCH MEN LIVED

Carl,
Thanks for posting. Please give your father a huge Thank You from my family and I. Please let him know that there are those of us, who will never understand what it was like, that will never forget.
