NEW CONCEALED CARRY SIGN REGULATIONS ANNOUNCED

Attorney General Phill Kline released today the new concealed carry sign regulations Kansas businesses and organizations must use for signs prohibiting concealed handguns in their buildings.

Each sign shall meet all of the following requirements:

The size of the sign must be at least eight by eight inches, with the graphic at least six inches in diameter. If the sign is larger, then the graphic needs to be proportional in size.
The background will be white.
The graphic of the handgun will be black.
The graphic of the circle and diagonal slash across the handgun will be red.
No text will be within the one-inch area surrounding the graphic.
The signs must be displayed so those entering the building will likely see it.

Our legislators were wise enough to require the signage to be large and obtrusive, making the establishment use precious space to post something controversial.

Kansas decided to not even include text, leaving only a simple 8"x8" ghostbuster sign

Now Rick Perry needs to get busy and get reciprocity with Kansas.

This is somethign to keep in mind when and if we ever do get a reciprical agreement between out states...

What we can "obviously" ignore in Texas, will be the absolute law in Kansas...

I can see Kansas still being a:

"Just passing through" state for a while...

Even if we get reciprocity with them...

Kansas is new to this, and is having to overcome Midwestern sensibilities about concealed carry.

Remember, from 1995-1997, any "no guns" sign would have been sufficient notice in Texas. Maybe Kansas will learn better. If not, at least they require a specific sign that's big enough to be seen, and they require it to be posted in a certain way on every entrance. It's still better than Texas c.1996, and the states that don't have a specific signage requirement.

Even Texas has nothing on Colorado. To ban licensed concealed carry, a business must have metal detectors and guards posted.

I do hope KS moves in the correct direction, though. They're usually about a decade behind the rest of the country.

I couldn't find any conveniece store bans in Kansas. The ban on walking into a store that sells alcohol is the most obtrusive. Having to remove a gun to pay for gas is very annoying and dangerous.
