My watch = $12.00 waterproof from WalMart; My money clip (I keep this to hand over to criminals) = $20.00
They can have them.

If, however, they start shooting people and come towards me with intent to kill me, I'd offer them my Gold (Dots)

You are looking at 3 armed individuals, one at the door.

I've actually been in a similar situation, me in the back of a store, gun at my head, another guy up front by the door, gun on cashier and manager.

We gave them $200. they locked us in a store room, and left.

It wasn't easy to read their intent, they had no plan, I suggested they lock us up; they agreed.

YMMV; but IMHO, wouldn't "engage" nor even unconceal, without the proper timing, considering where the 3 guys are located, what they are doing, and each of their body language.

Now if they put us face down in the store room and started to aim at anyone's head .... I'm not just laying there. (Wasn't it 4 teen girls working at the yogurt shop in Austin executed after being taken to the store room?)

Having been in similar situations with multiple robbers twice now, (second time was 5 guys) I'll say it's good to think scenarios beforehand, but you won't actually know what you'll do, until it happens. (About an hour prior to the holdup, the cashier said all we have is coin, not much paper money... the manager said, someone would be stupid to rob us; the paper sack of coin would tear, and I'd hit him with the cash drawer)

I was glad he didn't.

One interesting difference in the two times I was involved, and this Denny's robbery.
The two I was involved in, I had more $ in my wallet than the stores had, but no one ever asked for my wallet.
That however, is why I started carrying my spare money clip.

Impossible to answer. How close are you to the two bad guys? Can you shoot them and engage the third at the door without endangering innocent people in the store? Where are their weapons? How many shots do you have on you? How accurate is your aim? How long will it take you to get your weapon in the ready position? Will they see you draw? What's your background for the shots? Could you hit innocent bystanders? Could the bad guys? Will your actions be justified under the circumstances? Would another CHL'r in the restaurant perceive you as a threat and open fire on you?

Those are just a few questions that you would have to be able to answer before reaching for your weapon.

Apparently all went well, in that no one was hurt.
Headline ...
Patrons Robbed Inside Denny's Restaurant
No One Was Hurt
No shots were fired and nobody was hurt according to police.

I got my CHL to protect MY life.
Not your life
Not your purse
Not my watch and money clip.
Not even my car.
YMMV, but that's me

The news is just a bit shy from saying "What a successful robbery those guys just pulled off. Congratulations!!!"
Please help the wounded store owner who fought off 3 robbers. He doesn't have medical insurance.

Awareness? With the current environment, these things are happening more often. I simply posted the story because it really happened, was a public place, and it could happen to you. How you react is up to you and training.

With all of the stories of mall shootings, bank robberies, car jackings, home invasions, church shootings, etc, it is better to be aware and informed.

For those who hesitate and hold back when they have the opportunity, offenders who commit violent robbery never hesitate to kill for no reason. They would kill you just so you do not id them, even when they are hiding their faces.

exactly. Im not much for waiting around and hoping they don't decide to hurt or kill someone.

if someone innocent got killed (even if I didn't know them) and I was armed and had the opportunity and didn't take it....I dont think that would sit well with me. hopefully I'll never have to find out.

The reverse is equally true. If you opened fire on the robbers and an innocent bystander was killed in the crossfire, would you feel good about that? No matter what you do the second guessing will go on forever - unless you are lucky enough to take out all three with no other casualties. That's why I threw out all the questions you'd need to answer before you draw. No situation is ever black and white.

Denny's prices are reasonable. We enjoy the Grand Slam breakfasts offered by Denny's. I'll always sit facing the door, enjoying my repast, and watching the other, usually, older people order and eat while engaging in small talk with the love of my life.

We've never been in a Denny's, or anywhere else, when armed bandits entered with their nefarious demands. Although I'll always have my trusty SA 1911 LW Compact in condition 1 on my hip (unless I'm in the Post Office) I don't know what I'll do should we be so accosted. I hope I don't cause harm to befall Mrs. Oldgringo or embarrass myself...in some way. Everybody else is on their own.

Actually, this incident has started me thinking more about seating position in a restaurant, including Denny's. May have to start being more pushy about where we're seated. :leaving

If you're seated with your back to the entrance, you may be among the last to know what's going on around you. Actually, I prefer to have my back to a wall that faces both the entrance and the kitchen...and Mrs Oldgringo accepts that.
