Personal Protection for Women

Post by CompVest »

I gave my first class for women this last Saturday. I had eleven ladies show up. Most were college students as this class was specially given for the 2nd Amendment Academy of Montgomery College. Only three had any previous shooting experience. One brought her own handgun.

The class lasted 3 hours and consisted of about an hour of classroom and almost 2 hours of range work. Classroom covered safety awareness, handgun safety, and shooting basics. Range work covered loading, unloading, aiming, and hitting the target. Which all the ladies did and WOW did they hit the targets. These new and inexperienced shooters were shooting groups that I would be proud to shoot and I shoot about 25,000 rounds a year!

The next class will be April 23. We will have two speakers. Charles Cotton (Your Forum Host) and Steve Vandermolen (Emergency Preparedness Specialist). They will speak on the Texas Concealed Handgun License and Personal Safety Awareness respectively.

If any of your ladies would be interested in my class I offer it the fourth Saturday every month, 1 to 4 PM, at Thunder Gun Range. Contact me by private message for additional information.

PSC Womens' Program

Post by TraCoun »

Just wanted to let anyone interested know that the Womens' Program at PSC kicked off Saturday, 6/25. A total of 18 showed up, which was WAY beyond expectations. All the reports were positive. :D

4 ladies formed a team to run it. Three were current PSC members, the fourth was CompVest. Her shooting experience and experience with running a similar program in her area was a big plus. Thanks to all. :D :D

If you are interested in future plans watch the PSC website and/or contact those who run it.

Thanks for the update Donna.

I am still trying to talk my wife into attending. I may be close. :D

Would it be a problem for me to sit in ( well in the background)?

The ladies program at PSC was great! The two founding instructors allowed me to participate. They had a well thought out program and taught/ran it well. I had a great time and the students were excellent. I definitely recommend PSC's women's class. I am looking forward to helping at the July class.

We are joining forces to create a Greater Houston Area women's program.

Donna,
How much is the class? I would like to encourage a few friends of mine to attend with me. They kind of shy away from firearms, and I believe its b/c they don't know how to use them.
I want to be able to give them all the info they need to attend.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

I am still doing classes at Thunder Gun Range. I do them by appointment and tailor them to fit the student's needs. I generally charge $25/hour. I do group rates depending on number of students and their ability to pay. I try to keep class size to 6 as a maximum. I prefer students to bring their own equipment, hearing and eye protection, belt, holster, and gun. 100 to 200 rounds of ammo depending on time and student shooting level.

Send me a private email at 'compvest@hughes.net' for more info.

Great to hear from you and I hope I hear more,
