I'm new to the forum but have been stalking around for awhile. I received my CHL last year.
My question....
I see that the Taurus Judge shoots 410 and 45 long Colt.
My 12 yr son inherited a Winchester single shot break open model 37A.from my uncle. He and I love this little smoke pole. We have many other arms to shoot on our private range but the 410 has been the fun close up bang pole.
Can we shoot 45 Colt long ammo thru this shotgun? I'm aware of the non rifleing issue. We have other rifles too shoot 10/22 AK SKS so on and so on.
Will shooting A 45 long Colt messup this shotgun . I don't want to mess up this Winchester.
Anyone Know how old this shotgun?

Re: 410 vs 45 long colt
I would not do it. Different receiver, different barrel composition, etc. The Judge was designed for all the velocities/loads involved and the shotgun was not. Recommend just shooting .410 slugs if you want a solid projectile.
Edit to add: I'm not sure a .45 LC would even fit in the chamber......

I definitely wouldn't do it for the reasons above. For comparison, I tried to load a .45 Colt into my .410 H&R Handy-Gun pistol (properly registered!), and it wouldn't even chamber. Even if it had, there's no way I would fire it.

Thanks, That kinda what I was thinking. We went to the pasture today & he decided he liked the Marlin Camp Carbine 45ACP. He has shot it a couple of years ago but didn't like it. Amazing what a couple of years make. Now I need a loan to buy 45ACP LOL

The H&R Handy Gun falls under the NFA.sjfcontrol wrote:What does that mean? Registered with whom?JCole wrote:I definitely wouldn't do it for the reasons above. There was an amnesty period ending in 1968 whereby they could be legally registered with the ATF.

Re: 410 vs 45 long colt
Forget the rifling issue. Chamber pressure is the real issue. SAAMI max pressure for the .45 Long Colt is 14,000 PSI. For the .410 shotshell, it is 13,500 PSI. I wouldn't put hot .45 long colt loads in a chamber engineered for .410 shotshell specs, unless the gun was specifically chambered for .45 long colt AND .410 shotshells.
