Imagine...
...the place you're going is expecting you. (Same as the airport.) You have to pass a couple of security checkpoints and a metal detector. (Same as the airport.) You don't see any 30.06 signs. You tell the security guy that you are legally carrying. He says, "No problem". "Place your weapon in this lockbox, lock it and keep the key with you. You can retrieve your weapon upon your return." (Not the same as the airport.)
Now wouldn't it be nice if most or all high security zones offered law-abiding CHL holders the same courtesy? You can also imagine how I came up with this idea.

it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.

Forgive me if ive missed something critical, but if there is no 30.06 sign that means im legal to carry concealed. In which case ill be keeping my irons holstered.

Re: Imagine...
I can guarantee security would not let you past a certain point with weapons and being less than forthright with them would not have been well received. When there is a metal detector and no 30.06, you are probably being courteous and wise to inform security of your situation. They had no problem with me legally carrying, but their job demanded that no one is armed past a certain point. On private property, they can make the rules. It was cool that they simply offered the lockbox for weapon storage. Wouldn't it be great if we could do that at other places that restricted carry?ex_dsmr wrote:Forgive me if ive missed something critical, but if there is no 30.06 sign that means im legal to carry concealed. In this case, he has just been orally notified that firearms are not permitted. No 30.06 sign needed.ex_dsmr wrote:Forgive me if ive missed something critical, but if there is no 30.06 sign that means im legal to carry concealed. In which case ill be keeping my irons holstered.

I did this at the Empire State Building a few years back when the wife and I went. I stepped out of the metal detector line, grabbed a supervisor and discreetly mentioned I was carrying a nice pocketknife and if they had a secure place to check it, yes they did, so, went through, up to top, then stopped by checkpoint on way out and got the knife.

Re: Imagine...
Yes, it would be nice. Nicer not to "need" to disarm, but there are places that require it.
Mind if I ask what courthouse this was? And whether or not I'm likely to find the same courtesy in most Texas courthouses?

Andrew

With my current eye problems/allergies I'm sorry if I missed something saying it was a Courthouse; I assumed it was visiting someone in a secured area of a jail, where I'd expect, and have seen weapons lockers etc.?BobCat wrote:Yes, it would be nice. I haven't seen anything like that in Courthouses yet. In fact all the County and State offices (driver's license, license plates etc) moved behind the metal detector in our County Courthouse up here and the Justice of the Peace's secretary is the first "office" as you walk in the building. so to get anywhere, you must walk past "offices utilized by a court".

Not your eyes, my poor tired brain.
An earlier post mentioned courthouses and I misinterpreted what was said and implied.
Sorry.

No problem
Most Courthouses I've been in have no signs, as they aren't required to, others have all kinds of non-30.06 signs, l;ike leave knives in car etc., and some Municipal Courts have no sign at all, areas inside Municipal buildings should have a "Court Inside" sign (like Intel Inside) but some don't.
It would be nice if they did do the weapons lockers etc if they continue to ban weapons in Courthouses though, but doubt we''ll see that soon. One episode of Bat Masterson the Judge ordered everyone except Bat to put their guns on a table up front while court was in session at the Saloon, after a bad guy looked threatening; that's about as close to weapons lockers at a Court as I've seen.

What? Not even a pocket knife in an office building/tourist site? That's just ridiculous.PUCKER wrote:iratollah wrote:...the place you're going is expecting you. (Same as the airport.)
