NICS what the heck?

Post by FoxtrotTangoAlpha10 »

So I was just rejected at Academy. Just wanted a home defense shotgun while I wait for my plastic(guess thats not coming now).
Funny thing is that I just retired from the army and I posses a TS/SCI security clearance! I carried a concealed handgun for the last six years while on duty! I have no criminal record. I was allowed to carry during two combat tours and also to protect VIP's. Now after all that I am denied my right to protect my family! what the heck?

Is your real name Aqmed?

JK!

That is terrible. I think you should be able to find out why but I am not an expert. Someone will be along soon hopefully to help.

Your situation certainly does not make sense.

Maybe it's the same as some other person who has a criminal record. I hope you can straighten this out soon. Let us know what happens.

CHL will fix this process. In the meantime there is a way to submit prints to the FBI to clear up mistaken identity issues.

Good to know that the CHL will fix this. The FBI most certainly has my prints. Do you think I need to submit again. I have contacted them but expect no reply till at least monday.

That's odd. Out of curiosity, did you provide the (optional) SS number on the form?
Some people decline to give that info, but without it you could be mistaken
for someone else with the same or very similar name.

as gigag04 mentioned, once you have your CHL you will no longer have to have
deal with the "call in"....just show them the card.

Did you put your SSN on the form? It's not mandatory and some don't do it out of principle, but it does avoid confusion w/ people w/ a similar name. You can appeal a denial by filling out a form. Take a look at the FBI Web Site...

FBI NICS Site

You'd think that as thorough as the Feds are doing a background investigation for a TS/SCI clearance that it would enable you to buy a gun or for that matter, get a CHL. But the information really isn't shared between agencies.

EDIT: Man, USA1 types faster than me...
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

What's stupid is that a TCLEOSE commission card doesn't bypass the check, only a TX CHL.

Initially I did not provide my SSN. The clerk had me fill it in after the person on the phone said it would help. It occurs to me that recently I made several trips to and from europe. A few time the customs officer asked me some strange questions about places I had and had not lived in the past.

Please let me know if international travel got you on the "no buy" list.

Thanks,

I will post the justification once I receive it.
How does this affect my rights on my property or MPA? I do have a handgun in the house and planned to travel with it this weekend.

Does anyone know of any gun shows this weekend? Recent events in my neighborhood have me feeling far to vulnerable. Any other options for a home defense weapon?

i would imagine if your really CLEAN

that academy screwed up somehow and nixed your buy

top security clearances have zero bearing on buying a firearm....remember its all access and need to know...not a blanket approval
i carried all day long on active duty, that didnt give me a free pass
and customs asked us the same dumb questions...its what they do to trip folks up, its up to you to have fun with it. if they asked you the dumb questions...that means you blended
try explaining numerous trips to honduras over x amount of months.
monday call and find out what the issue is
or want some fun....call fbi field office tonight and start an inquiry  the dallas office will return your call on weekends

When I worked in a gun store, we had a lot of customers with a high security clearance due to where they worked. They usually got delayed, not rejected, but delayed.
