Please remember that if the felon is on probation, that can change everything. Most probationary rules forbid firearms in the home.

A guy I know is a serious hunter and has even become sort of a semi-pro hunting guide.

His wife was convicted of a felony, for embezzlement, I think. She got probation.
The guy was beside himself not knowing for a long time if he'd have to get rid of his guns or store them at a friend's place or whatever. I think it was finally determined, after a lot of legal advice and back and forth with the authorities, that it would be all right if he put a safe in his shop building, seperate from their house but still on the property, and stored all his guns in the safe, so long as she did not have access to it.

I'm not positive about the details. I was just on the periphery of several conversations on the subject.

If the brothers have separate bedrooms, I think the CHL brother putting a lock on his bedroom door and having a handgun lockbox would deny constructive possession of the firearm by the felon brother. He can store any additional firearms off site with a trusted friend (who isn't a felon. )
