Weapons seized in Palm Beach County schools over the past four years
Those are among the hundreds of weapons authorities seize from students on South Florida campuses each year. In the last four years alone, police and school officials confiscated nearly 3,000 weapons in Broward and Palm Beach County schools.

Taken from a different perspective, this is a school system (and the media) hyperventilating over kids being kids.

I'd bet if you searched the kids in any high school you would find a wide variety of "weapons". It really depends upon what you define as a "weapon". They classify a BB gun and pocket knife the same as carrying a pistol, so the kid with a swiss army knife from Boy Scouts is treated the same as the thug with a Glock.

Treating everyone the same and classifying ALL tools as evil fruits, creates disfunctional kids.

Very subtle but obvious to the careful reader. The first two sentences talk about guns that were seized; one used in a homicide and one from an eight-year-old. (It isn't until later that you learn the gun confiscated from the eight-year-old could have been a bb gun.) Then the third sentence says that "nearly 3000" "weapons" were seized in the past four years. (What does "nearly" mean? 2999? 2501?) It isn't until much later in the article that you learn that "weapons" are defined as "guns, knives, tear gas guns, brass knuckles, or chemical weapons." So a girl carrying a small tear gas canister or pepper spray for protection would add to the statistics.

This article is so incredibly biased that it should never have been printed by a reputable news outlet. But then that's typical when it comes to {{{shudder}}} guns.

Of course Jackson State and Kent State could be discarded as "school shootings" since the government was the ones holding the guns ...... so the only "Student shooter" prior to 1973 I found was Charles Whitman... years earlier.

A straight-A student was suspended for playing with toy guns with friends on a school playground - on a Sunday. Even worse, the parents of one of the kids who was playing filed a police report because their child was hit with one of the plastic pellets fired by the toy gun.

All the boys I knew in high school, and some of the girls, carried a boy scout knife, SAK, or some other pocket knife. Nobody got stabbed or cut in fights.

We all could read and we spoke English. Even the kids whose family spoke Tagalog, Vietnamese, Spanish or some other language at home.

Weapons on campus? What a stinking joke! Been there, done that with my son. When he was a junior, or senior in high school he and his running buddy were playing around in the back yard with my splitting maul and broke the handle. Being the responsible (but lazy) kid he was, he promptly went the the hardware store and bought a replacement handle which was left in the back of his truck the rest of the summer, clear into October. I got a call from him from school one afternoon (an honor student, church leader, all around good kid) telling me he was expelled for 10 days, or some such crap because Barney Fife (the campus cop) and the Warden (assistant principal/ former self proclaimed prison warden) decided he was guilty of possessing a dangerous weapon.... the day before I helped him tighten the alternator on his truck and used the slightly aged maul handle as a lever - and I threw it back in the bed of his truck with all the other junk myself. The funny thing was, the nailed two other real criminals for possession of dangerous weapons the same day. One was a little league coach for his little brother's team and had a 26" bat and glove laying in the back seat of his car to be ready for the afternoon practice. The other was a member of the school golf team and left his club on the passenger's side of his small car.... yep, a putter he had just bought from another golf team member, and was headed to the putting green after school. Within an hour I had talked to the superintendent, four schoolboard members... then "the warden". The five former calls all resulted in shock, disbelief, then all out laughter as they all knew the three evil perpetrators. All three were told to be in class as usual the next day and the record would be immediately cleaned up before it actually became a "record".

This Zero Tolerance thing was totally out of hand in the 90's, so I can believe it's worse today.

All I can say is your school admin was much more intelligent than the average of today. They seem to just swim in being morons today.
