Re: FBI Background check
I do not see where the OP specifically said that he does NOT have a CHL. I didn't walk away from that post with that impression. I did note a bit of an attitude, but most of the posters on this forum (to include myself) have one in one form or another.

Agreed, Purplehood. But how can you read the first post otherwise?Purplehood wrote:I do not see where the OP specifically said that he does NOT have a CHL. I done a FBI check on my self an It come back clear. Is this the same as a NCIS background check? I want to make sure I'am good to go before I appy Thanks
A clarification from Spanky would be appreciated. I would have no problem with retracting my comments if in order.

Re: FBI Background check
Good question. What is the most reasonable assumption when the forum on which the OP was posted is this one, Purplehood -- when this forum's members are those consulted about his "application?" And this was only his 2nd post here?Purplehood wrote:Good point. What is he applying for?b322da wrote:Agreed, Purplehood. I have said before that when Purplehood speaks, we should listen, and I am listening. I am also listening for a clarification from the OP that he had a CHL during the 15 years he says he has been carrying. It is also possible that the DPS is listening. It is of course possible that the OP deserves our congratulations for being among the first to be so licensed.
I must admit that the OP's apparent facility with the English language invites misunderstanding. For a while I thought this may have been a trolling, and that perhaps the 15 years may have been most of the OP's life.
Again, Spanky, if I am wrong -- I am listening.

No, No, No!, Purplehood. No apology in order. There is nothing like a good Devil's Advocate to focus one's thinking.Purplehood wrote:Elmo, I apologize for playing Devil's Advocate or as more commonly alluded to, Board Troll.

Re: FBI Background check
Not really relevant to his original post; basically a simple question about whether an FBI background check was the same as NICS. His later response was possibly in frustration to the innuendo, etc. instead of an answer...jmra wrote:I'm still confused about what he already did done, what he done be doing, and what he fixin to done.
Wish I could answer, Spanky, but I just don't know. Good luck, thank you for your service, and welcome to the forum. Hope you stick around.

If you have not already discovered this, jmra, irony is sometimes wasted here. Many times even smiley-faces and LOLs do not even sink in.jmra wrote:I'm still confused about what he already did done, what he done be doing, and what he fixin to done.

Re: FBI Background check
Definitely missed the irony, smiley faces and LOL's in this post.I'll be happy to give you some advice, Spanky, as you request, and I trust it will be a "helpful reply."
When I read your first post, which started all of this, along with the one I quote just above, I conclude that you do not have a CHL, and most likely have never had one. Then follows your confession that you have been carrying illegally for 15 years. On this forum "carrying" means carrying a concealed handgun outside one's home, and it certainly appears to me that you are using the word that way as well. I await your clarification should there be any.
In view of your attitude here and your blatant and proud apparent admission of 15 years of criminality, bragging about it, I would think that it is unlikely that you will ever have a CHL, particularly should your admission here come to the attention of the appropriate authorities.
While I have no interest in your "dirty laundry," I will assure you that the authorities, when looking at your background, will be interested.
I will go further and say that in my opinion, if I properly understand your own posts, you should not ever hold a CHL, and that if you ever did you would besmirch the reputation of the men and women who hold them deservedly. You will find them on this forum.
If I misunderstand the situation please be so kind to clarify it for me.

Re: FBI Background check
You can stake your life on it, ELB. A NICS check is to an FBI background investigation as an LEO's parking ticket is to an FBI preparation for a federal grandjury hearing on a very serious felony. More than 50 years ago I had my first FBI check and they talked to my grade school teachers, among many others. Some 20 years later as I was recommended for an uncommon higher-level security clearance they exhaustively looked at those 20 years. The Bureau is not satisfied with looking at paperwork. I once had an occasion to view my FBI file (but not the contents), and, while I was assured that there was nothing adverse in it, it was a file more than 2 inches thick.ELB wrote: SNIP But to answer his original question: I do not know if a NICS check and a "background check" are the same. I suspect they are not identical, but contain some of the same data, since the purpose of a NICS check is to flag any disqualifying items, like felony convictions. I would suspect a background check contains more info, but that is only speculation.

You're correct, that was not said. Some red flags here, though:Purplehood wrote:I do not see where the OP specifically said that he does NOT have a CHL. I certainly applaud Spanky's apparent interest in carrying legally!I've been carrying for 15 years. The state of TX didn't tell me I could protect my family, thats a decision I made with the constitution of the United States of America.

Very simple reason why, Flash. There were none. It was intended as a very serious post.TexasFlash wrote:Definitely missed the irony, smiley faces and LOL's in this post.
