More Zero-Tolerance Stupidity

Just to be clear on this ... When my niece says she has "Show and Tell" at school ...I shouldn't give her the real Indian (Native American) Tomahawk I took when I was in second grade?

It's American History, Social Studies (Native American History) and educational.
Guess I should call the ACLU, discrimination against teaching sumpin' or 'nuther.

I'm guessing stone knives, spear points and arrowheads are out ...
How about a coal miner's/Gold prospector's pick axe? I may have one in the shed.

If not, maybe a garden hoe, to show what people used in their War-time "Victory Gardens"
Wait, no, mom and GranDad used to use it to chop rattlesnakes heads off ...imagery might be too violent for kids.

Maybe some old western boot and saddle making tools like burnishing tools. leather punches and stamps and leather knives ... wait .. no

I got it ... an old Windows 95 CD, and she can show how Indians used to use them to reflect the sun to flash signals from mountain tops to others. (A mirror or glass might be a sharp weapon)

Ok, now for the science fair, how about an electro-magnet ... we'll need a battery, some wire to coil around a big nail ...wait ... no nails allowed? Too sharp?

Guess that explains why all the parents at last year's science fair acted like they got exposed to way too many glue fumes though; I hear it dissolves brain cells.

UPDATE: Transparency! Sorrentino follows up: “The first and only thing that was said was for the Vice Chair, John T Bonardi to move to go to closed session. They are currently in closed session upstairs to discuss ‘information not subject to public records,’ and to ‘preserve the attorney client privelige.’ There’s still time for more Sanford locals to show up.” They sound nervous. As, it seems, they should be.

After reading the blog, it seems the school is digging in and refusing to be reasonable. Once you put your child in public school, you are viewed as an outsider who can only interfere by the liberal control freaks who run many of our schools. If you want to come help raise money for them, or do free busywork, and be properly respectful, you are tolerated. If you want to actually have some say in how your child is treated or what draconian prison-like rules are thought up and enforced, you will quickly find just how little say you have. I don't know why the most power mad are drawn to public education administration, but they are. I guess they failed to get the job at the IRS and don't have the money to run for congress. This is one reason home schooling is so popular and successful. I know there are many fine teachers who are just as frustrated as the rest of us, but they often are not given much chance to rise up the ladder if they disagree with this pervasive mindset of your kid is not yours if he/she is enrolled.

School administrations seem to close ranks fast, regardless of ridiculous the position is. Sometimes, they will back down but I suspect that it will take a lot more public pressure than they have gotten so far to make that happen in this case.

We are raising an entire generation to think this is the normal way to deal with anything "against the rules". Look out because it is the same mindset that has has led the UK and others to prosecute the housewife who raises a kitchen knife on a home invader as if she is the criminal. Zero tolerance of "violence" includes the victim trying to defend himself/herself. There is an agenda here coming from the liberal minds of those in power in the upper levels of our education system. We need to stop this stupidity before it's too late.

This is a greater problem than anything on the gun control table. It won't matter if guns are legal if you're not allowed to use them for self-defense. And this mentality is working its way into our culture and threatens to produce the same kinds of insanity now on display in the UK. At the moment things may not look too bad in terms of current legislation but this cultural shift being engineered by the liberals controlling the school system is a time bomb for self-defense rights. Once they have produced enough people who think this way the right to self-defense will be eliminated here as it has been in the UK.
