WW II Heroes

Post by Oldgringo »

:blowup

The jeep driver said,"... you're surrounded by Germans..."

Lt. Winters repiled,"...we're paratroopers, we're supposed to be surrounded..."

Name this film

I cheated and copied the quote into the search bar. :evil2: So I know, but I am not going to tell. I wasn't sure about the exact movie, but I was pretty sure I knew what battle it applied to, and I was right. I visited that battle location when I was stationed in Germany (but the location was in another country).

It is in the same spirit as the explanation give to us by one of the Black Hats (instructors) when I went through The Airborne School many years ago. Just before heading out to the C-130s for our first jump, we were briefed on the history of airborne operations - D-Day, Market-Garden, etc. The instructor giving the briefing told us the reason that we did so much PT and running (and we ran EVERYWHERE we went, even if it was only three feet away) was that every airborne operation ever launched turned into a screwed up mess and we had to be tough enough to fight our way out of it. :patriot:

The training cadre at Benning when my father was there consisted mostly of noncoms who had made the Normandy jump among others.

He claimed they were the meanest sergeants he ever ran into. Of course back then they didn't have nice planes like the 130's, they had C-46's and 47's. :evil2:
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

I recognized the quote immediately. I own the CD set.

Us too, as well as the books. I still think that may have been "the greatest generation". If you haven't watched all of the trailers to the film, you might want to put that on your to-do list.

I have seen the entire collection at least a half dozen times. I never get tired of watching it.
