I carry just enough to get me to my rifle. Seriously though I see your question. If im carrying my 1911 in 10mm then I carry a spare mag. Gives me 19 rounds total with one in the window. If I carry my XD45 or Glock 20/10mm I usually dont carry a spare mag just the 13/15 rounds one in the gun. I do however usually allways carry a BUG. Usually my SIG P238 in .380 its a minature 1911.
There are times when at night im carrying my 1911 with spare mag,my BUG,Pocket Knife and flashlight because its night. I hate that feeling that I get like im a police officer going on patrol with all the gear. I use my knife all the time as a tool and have you ever dropped something in a dark parking lot or come home and forgot to turn the outside lights on. ITS DARK lol.

There goes that word again....what do you "need"___________ for.drjoker wrote: What you need 58 rounds of ammo for?
That is more detremental comming from a gun owner and CCW'er than it ever could be from people like Diane Fienstein.

I get on other gun owners' cases when they say gunlitically incorrect stuff like, "assault weapon" instead of "hunting rifle" or "kill" instead of "harvest", etc. I'm surprised that I let that one slip by me.
Me so sorry!

I carry topped off and +1. Not sure why one would do otherwise. I guess if your firearm lacked certain safety-features, i.e. firepin-block. Still..
This question has never crossed my mind.

It's odd to me that so many people seem to think of "one in the pipe" as +1. I guess it makes sense in a way. When guns are advertised as having a capacity of ##+1, that means "a full mag plus one in the chamber".
You can have one in the chamber, but not be "+1". I was never questioning carrying with one in the chamber, but lots of folks seem to be addressing that question.

My typical EDC is my 642 J Frame in a pocket holster, with 2 speed strip reloads. Oddly enough, I only carry 4 rounds in each speed strip because it GREATLY speeds up the reload process despite sacrificing one empty chamber in the cylinder. By placing two rounds on each end of the speed strip, leaving the 2 center holes empty, you can drop those rounds 2 at a time right into the cylinder and rip them off. I do all my reloads at the range from the speed strips. It took me a while to get profficient with the little snubbie, but after a year or so of practice, I'm very quick with presentation, very accurate (for a 2" barrel), and quick on the reload. For me and my lifestyle, it's the perfect carry gun. Once I realized that it was a better fit than a bottomfeeder, it was practice practice practice. YMMV.
Bottom line, I guess that would be 5 rounds in the 642, with 8 reloads.
Cheers!

With a little adjustment in technique, you can drop in two rounds at a time from a five round loaded speed strip too and end up with a fully loaded gun.camjr wrote:My typical EDC is my 642 J Frame in a pocket holster, with 2 speed strip reloads. I carry a glock 26 with two 10rnd mags. I insert mag, rack the slide to put one in the chamber leaving 9 in the mag. That way I have a place to put the chambered round should i need to unload somewhere. I figure if 20rnds arent enough then neither is 50.

Just curious, where would you need to unload and not disarm completely?Vandelay Ind. wrote:I carry a glock 26 with two 10rnd mags. I used to carry a pt111 and you cant lock the slide with a round in the chamber if you should have to lock the gun up in the car for 30.06 reasons. I just carried the practice to the glock for some reason.
