Around 8:15 a.m., a man driving in the 900 block of North Zarzamora saw a woman on a bridge struggling on the ground with a white and tan dog, according to San Antonio police. The man, a local business owner and concealed handgun carrier, stopped his vehicle, parked and fired several shots, striking the dog, said Sgt. Devon Lambert.

This was me last month. Only took one shot though and the dog was coming after me, not a 3rd party.

Reminds me of the old Far Side cartoon where the guy at the bar and the bartender are looking at the TV, where a dog is biting a man on the leg. The bartender says something like: "Hey Fred, ain't that your dog attacking the President?"

On the other hand,it saddens me to see the dog shot. Dogs do what their instinct, breeding, and training (or lack thereof) tell them to do -- there is not a moral dimension to his actions like with a human mugger. I would defend me and mine against an animal attack, but I would not feel good about it at all.

Now, if I could find a way to punish his owner instead...
