Change county?
I got my CHL a couple of months ago. I logged onto the DPS CHL site and noticed that they have my county wrong. Otherwise the address is correct and is correct on my CHL. I have no idea how it got wrong - I applied via paperwork and may have missed the county info or perhaps they entered wrong - the place I took the course was in the county that's listed.
Questions is - do I need to update the DPS site just to change my county of residence? That info isn't on the CHL license. but may be used by counties to get list of CHL holders in that county. If it's not a big deal I'd rather not have to pay $25 just to update the county. But I don't want to run afoul of the law either.
From what I can see it says I need to notify them of an address change within 30 days but my address hasn't changed, the county is just wrong. Anyone could look on Google maps and see it's wrong.
Thankls

Re: Change county?
Sounds like you could take care of it with a phone call to DPS... if county info is on the magnetic strip, you may need a new card.

Re: Change county?

you shouldn't need new plastic, just need the the DPS to correct their error.
By the way welcome to the forum

Not sure where "$25" comes from.
Requested address changes (online) for my wife's and my driver's licenses and CHL last week. The state charged my debit card $11 for each DL and $14.50 for each CHL change.

Re: Change county?
When I just now logged into the DPS CHL site and attempted to change my address, they wanted $25 and another $2 service fee.
It is also requiring me to enter my employers address and email before I can proceed. Why do they need that information? At best that should be voluntary.
This is the site I was using - http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... sindex.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and the "Change the address..." link on that page.

Larry, are you in one of the half price categories (12.50 + 2.00 = 14.50)?LarryH wrote:Not sure where "$25" comes from.

Re: Change county?
I would not approach this as an address change. I would contact DPS and point out their error you you discovered and ask them if they need to correct it and if that means they will be issuing you a new card.billv wrote:When I just now logged into the DPS CHL site and attempted to change my address, they wanted $25 and another $2 service fee.

Then, if they tell you you need to file and address change, I would object and say that you don't think you should have to pay $27 to correct their error.

My wife and I are both over 60. I wasn't aware that the half-price also pertained to address changes.MasterOfNone wrote:billv wrote:$2 service fee.Larry, are you in one of the half price categories (12.50 + 2.00 = 14.50)?LarryH wrote:Not sure where "$25" comes from.

Re: Change county?
Wouldn't it cut the $2.00 service fee in half, too?
