Anyone own a R700 SPS tactical.

I almost picked up one of these at the last gun show. Guy had what looked like a brand new one in .308 and a tactical looking BSA scope for $570 I believe. Figured I could probably sell the BSA scope for $50-75 and make out with pretty cheap R700. But I chickened out and now I'll probably end up buying one anyway.

Anyone use a bushnell 3200 10x 40? I narrowed down a future scope between this and the swfa. I would prefer the swfa but money is talking at the moment and I need to budget for a good mounting system ( which I don't even know where to begin). I also need money for ammo more importantly! Anyways the swfa has 100 moa adjustment and I believe the bushnell only 40? Will this make a huge difference shooting 500 to 600 yards for elevation adjustments shooting .308?

I have that scope on my .308 SPS. I am really happy with it. I have put about 300 rounds down range and have had no trouble with it holding zero. If you are worried about the MOA adjustment you can get a 50 MOA base and rings. Cals Sporting Armory has really good prices on that scope. I had planned on getting the SWFA but being as the manufacturer is the only one that carries it, they control the price and it has increased quite a bit over the last few years. Every once in a while one pops up on Ebay for a good price.

Great thanks for the info...mine will be similar in for the bushnell scope. I finally went with the elite 3200 10x40. EGW 15moa picatinny base. And burris elite tactical medium (1/2) rings. We will see how it all goes. I might want a cheek rest eventually but I will see how it feels when it all gets here. Rifle should be on its way in a few days, and the scope plus mounts should ship tomorrow.

I know I should probably went with steal for the mount in rings but I am trying to keep weight down a little bit and both products had pretty good reviews. So shall see how it works out. Thanks for the help.

Well my rifle, scope and accessories have all arrived. I am happy with all except my scope rings. I purchased the medium rings and I think I probably should have gone with low. I have about 3/4 inch between the scope and the gun. SO I probably will try to see if I can return them and pick up lower mounts. When it all arrives and I have the scope mounted I will post pictures.

I have the medium rings, they are 1/2'' but I haven't measure the distance between bore and scope. They work fine for me, once you sight it in the distance shouldn't matter. I've got a carr handle mounted scope on one of my ARs and its gotta be close to 6'' above the bore and it works just fine as well.

It depends on the height and shape of the comb, but on a typical Remington synthetic stock, you'll want the scope as close to the bore as you can manage it without actually touching. My Remington's scope in the picture below is less than a 1/4" above the barrel:


The scope tube is almost, but not quite, too high for comfort. However, this scope has a 50mm objective. If I were to mount a 42mm objective scope, I would use lower rings and make the thing a little more comfortable to shoot. Adding a 20 MOA rail might affect things too. This is an older scope with a 1" tube. I wanted to attach a small cheek riser to the buttstock, but it would interfere with the bolt, so I just got used to it the way it is. The cheek riser I put on my M1A made a HUGE difference in being able to get a good cheek weld on the stock.
