Foster Children

Post by joelamosobadiah »

I have two questions about carrying a firearm (with a CHL) in the home of a family that has foster children. This is nOT my residence, but a friend:

1. Is it LEGAL to carry in this situation? I know the foster parents cannot have firearms without upholding extremely strict rules, but is it illegal for another lawful CHL person to carry in their home?

2. If it is legal, hoe would you personally approach the situation? Ask permission? Approach it as concealed means concealed and carry? Not carry, etc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I first assume you are talking about in the great State of Texas.
If so, You are legal to carry concealed.
There is no requirement to inform anyone at any place of residence that you are carrying a firearm, so cover it up and you are good to go.
Personally, i would not say a word to them about it, as it is a non-issue.

That's good advice.

I don't see foster homes listed in 46.03 or 46.035 so unless the house is posted with a 30.06 sign, or the resident tells you that guns aren't allowed, there's no legal reason to disarm.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I have a friend who is fostering children and knows I carry. There no issues but it is understood that the gun stays on me and under my immediate control or it is locked in a secure place which is common sense anywhere that there are young children. We have even taken them out hunting and target shooting on his land with no problems.
It is easier to get an airport security clearance than a CHL
