Changes to Instructor App after DPS receives it

Post by JS5481 »

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. There's a lot of great info here. Thanks to all who make it happen!! I've sent in my instructors app. DPS has received it and the back ground check is under way. From what I understand it will be June before I get into an instructors class. If I take the NRA pistol instructors course between now and then, can I add that to my app to qualify for the shorter 28hr course instead of the 36hr one? Or is it too late for that now?

Thanks,
John.

Call DPS they are more likely to have the answer. My gut feeling is the answer is no.

Okay. I emailed DPS. This is the response that was sent.

Mr. John,

You can add your NRA certification if you’ll submit a copy of the certificate at least a month prior to class. I would advise you to check with our training department since they’re making the instructor classes schedule in order to make sure a month is enough time for them to receive the paper work from you.

Here is our training department phone # 254-793-4250.

Thank you

I did this last year... I had my application in, approved and scheduled for a class. I then completed the NRA instructor and basic pistol instructor class. I did not get my cert from NRA for a long time so I scanned my completion card from the NRA certifier and sent that to them.. They moved me to the short class.

Good luck and enjoy the class.
