What do you think of current gun laws in the United States?

OK, I will play..... the illegal use of a gun when commiting crimes are not tough enough. How about a law (on the State level) that calls for a mandatory 10 year sentence over and above the sentence for commiting the crime when an illegal firearm is used. Go after the thugs who use guns against society versus the law abiding people who use them for sport and self protection.... Re-hab behind bars is what will keep citizens safe, not restricting the citizens further with knee jerk reaction laws aimed at the many versus the few

Current laws are too strict. Any infringement upon gun owners' rights is an infringement upon the 2nd amendment. 29%
Current laws are not strict enough. We need to regulate access to deadly weapons. 70%

It's New York ... antis are wining the poll ...

The anti-self-defense crowd would likely "win" this poll conducted anywhere among any population that wasn't primarily made up of gun owners because this poll is designed to elicit a particular response (like 99% of any polls you read about in the MSM, whatever the subject). As someone else pointed out, the pro-gun answer is framed in absolutist language so that anyone who has any doubts or supports even reasonable legislation is forced to choose the anti-gun answer. The poll is completely bogus for this reason alone. However, it would still be bogus even if the choices weren't deliberately biased for the simple reason that of the people taking it, those who know what the guns laws are, are most likely to be those people who own guns. There is an article on Drudge about Tom Brokaw spouting off that he'd be afraid to go to a bar in Arizona because of all the people with guns. Now granted, Tom might just be spewing propaganda, but I suspect he really is that ignorant. The only way to overcome this bias would be to school the respondents on existing gun laws before they answer the poll. The nature of the poll therefore makes only one outcome possible: a "majority" of respondents voting for more gun control. For both reasons the poll would be bogus even if the sampling was legitimate --which it isn't, since it's an internet poll.
