How about:
TV stations and newspapers shall ONLY broadcast local news, you really don't need to know what we are doing in Washington...... peasant.
(And we know they legislate based on whatever "they" decide we "need")
That would have passed in a heartbeat before the mid-term elections.
(My most recent reply to anyone saying they know what I do or don't "need" is ...
"How many hurricanes, evacuations and aftermaths or other natural disasters have you been through to know what I "need"? Not as many as I have? Then I'm a better judge of that than you are, dontcha think?)
