Situational Awareness vs. Smartphones

Interesting article.

Personally, I've always tended to back myself up against a wall, or get in the car and lock the doors if I just have to take a call in public.

Working graveyard shift, I see this one a lot:
I always marvel upon landing on a redeye flight from the West Coast at how many people immediately take out their phones and begin dialing. It's 5:30 a.m. — 2:30 in the city they've left. Who are they calling?
People go to lunch or break at 2AM and spend the entire time on the phone. I think I've made personal calls between midnight and 0600 about a dozen times in my life, and most of them involved somebody going to the hospital or occasionally a wake up call for my wife when she had an early morning business trip.

I'm really surprised that we don't see more stories of BGs targeting smartphone users, especially those who are texting. The lady who fell into the fountain is a great example (I've watched that one played by the news organizations at least a dozen times.)

Is there something less than condition white - like condition outer space?

Condition blank?

Condition comatose?

Condition elsewhere?

Hijack….Now she's wanting to sue because no one came to her aid for the 5 to 10 seconds she was in the fountain. She said she was embarrassed by the video and now everyone knows who she is. No one had a clue who she was until she outed herself by doing a news interview and saying she wanted to sue.

In addition to being distracted, such a person is also advertising that he has something of value (the phone). Now he is easy prey with a known prize for a robber.

Condition white covers it. Unaware is unaware.

It reminds me of this story.

Alexa's mom says it doesn't matter that her daughter was text-messaging, the manhole should not have been left open. The family plans to file as lawsuit.
Sure: we won't want to accept any personal responsibility for having our head in the phone now would we? When all else fails, sue somebody because your STUPID!

I read (but don't have the link handy) that she has since reconsidered the lawsuit. Also, it has come out that she is facing criminal charges for using a coworker's credit card to the tune of $5000 or so.

Well I call it condition transparent but, the technical term for it is a violation of the 9 year old granddaughter rule.
