AR bolt & carrier ?

Am I good to go, with Break Free, for oiling down the bolt & carrier on my new AR 7.62X39 Sportical ?
DPMS, owner's manual stated ... heavy oiling = able to move oil around, with finger.
Years ago, while operating the M2 ..(Ma Duece .50 cal) from the TC's cupola... I used break free, and would let it drip, while firing, electrically or manually.... man, those babies would rock & roll ... but we had to soak them down with the break free. (what a mess !)

Which oil would you use on your new AR ?

CLP is fine, just shake the bottle alot so you get the teflon mixed in with the oil. If you use a bottle and don't shake it up, you get congealed teflon in the bottom of it. I shake mine vigorously for a bout 90 seconds before use. I've used it exclusively in my LMT piston rifle and it's been fine.

I also prefer the bottles and straws over spray cans.

Break oils is bit on the foam side and should work fine. I use Remington Oil spray can.

Slip2000 EWL for me. Breakfree and Militec are both very viable though.

I use Mobil 1. A quart of Mobil 1 should last for several years and costs less than that 4-6 ounce bottle of Break Free. I've been using the same quart of M1 since right after Hurricane Rita and I still have at least half a quart left. I use it on all my guns, squeaky hinges, tools, etc. BTW, ARs like to be wet but not dripping.

The 15W50 VTWIN is one of the most highly recommended grades of M1 for guns.

Yes, actually....I do. But I don't "get the gun hot" by firing it.

I use Militec on my AR only (bolt, carrier and trigger sear). You can use a hair dryer to heat the parts for the initial application(s). After that...I use it mainly for a wet lube (use sparingly).

I don't clean the bolt or carrier with harsh solvents either (Carb/Brake cleaner), instead...I use Mineral Spirits, an old tooth brush and compressed air. The lubricating properties seem to have stayed in place.

Honestly, I think the "burnishing" effect of the action cycling (parts against parts) does more to embed the lubricant than anything else. But MT does make a noticeable difference in smoothness... and parts clean-up is definitely easier.

I use Gun Butter
A little goes a loooong way.
I shoot my AR in 3 gun and with this lube I can just wipe down the bolt and carrier add another drop and be good to go.

Ok - the science seemed sound but I wanted to check around. Why only use it on the AR?
