Perry is great for 2A. A far stronger supporter than any other presidential candidate we'll see. He's not my favorite, but he's been good to gun owners an runs a profitable state.

Everywhere is trending left. Texas is just the slowest (right now).

Keep in mind, Perry sucks. He's not a conservative and not a good governor. I don't think the poll result would be the same for an actual conservative and a respected individual not seen as a career politician.

I think there are a LOT of Texans who are just sick and tired of Perry.
I keep voting against him in the primaries, and for him (grudgingly) in the election.
And if he ran against BHO, I'd vote for Perry and tell all my friends to do so.

There are a lot of people who want to spend OPM to benefit themself. The estimated "shortfall" reflects that. The answer is for the public sector to cut spending, in line with the reality of revenue. It's time for all of us to live within our means, not just the people who work hard to earn their paychecks. Everyone. If we don't then I agree that Texas is becoming a Blue State.

...with the Blues' record of doing things to boost their vote like multi-voting, cemetary voting, and trying with all their hearts to legitimize voter registration of non-citizens...I'm sure they can win polls...the last election says enough...as sorry as Perry is...as many Texans are fed up with his ways...he STILL beat the best the Blues had to offer...I think that will easily transfer to the national elections...hope he's nominated by the party...unless we get a Patriot American candidate before then...

Most people don't remember that it was near-unthinkable to vote Republican in Texas until the late 70's. Texans have long memories, and the resentment of carpetbaggers lingered for over 100 years.

A sobering thought that the 3 or 4 most recent US Presidents are (were) to the Left of JFK.

On the other hand, our State just elected a super-majority of Republicans to the legislature. No more running away to Oklahoma to avoid a quorum...right? Redistricting this year...and we just gained House/Electoral seats. I like our "non-professional", biennial legislature. When the legislature isn't in session, they can't be busy depriving us of our "life, liberty, and property".

I'm a proud Texan by choice... I chose to move here 20 years ago and have never regretted it.
