CHL Requested at bank

Guys,

Last week I was making a withdrawal from Chase Bank and the teller needed to see my paper driver license renewal which had been a casualty of a recent dryer incident. I told her that I had lots of stuff in my wallet and fumbled through, muttering, "credit card, student ID, CHL, organ donor," and while I was muttering she told me that a CHL would work. I didn't even consider using it; I thought my TX State ID was gonna' confirm my ID. She looked at it and said, "Looks just the one my dad has." I told her that she needed to get her own, and she told me that I sounded like her dad.

I seem to remember a story someone was telling last year or so about his experience at a chase bank.
He used his CHL as a second form of ID and was then asked if he was carrying and then asked to leave.
Needless to say he closed all his accounts and found a new bank.

...Wells Fargo takes mine with no comment...if they ask for a second form of ID...interestingly enough...they won't take State ID card and D.Lic. as "2 forms of ID"...they're "issued by the same place"....go figure...long as it works, I'm happy...

...if any business asked me if I was carrying...I wouldn't tell them yes...then they're less likely to verbally inform me...

I used my CHL as a second form of ID at a Chase branch and ended up in a discussion on the merits of various handguns with the Asst. Manager.

Concealed means concealed. You have no obligation to tell anybody, other than a police officer in the course of their official duties with you, if you are carrying.

If it had been me in that situation, I'd have gone back to the car, secured my gun, gone back in, and walked up to the manager and said in my loudest voice, "GIve me all my money, NOW!" Might as well do what they wanted to avoid in the first place -- scare all the other customers

I have to say, my business account is at my local Chase and my "account manager" was thrilled to hear that I was going to be starting up an FFL business this year (shh...don't tell nobody yet ). They seemed pretty firearm friendly.

Also, I presume the State ID, and Drivers licenses are both issued by DPS, as is the CHL. So it doesn't make any sense that they would reject the State ID "because they're both issued by the same department", but accept a CHL.

That's what I thought also, that a state ID was a substitute for a driver license. When I said TX Stat ID, I meant Texas State University ID.

Wells Fargo near us needed two forms of ID and my wife only had her DL and CHL with her at that moment. She showed her CHL and the teller got excited saying he was taking the class that weekend and proceeded to ask her a few questions. I was glad to see a bank that embraces their heritage so much and uses a stagecoach as their logo did not have an issue with a CHL.

...it's not issued...you have to pay for it...I got mine for places that want a second ID and aren't so picky...they are prepared by the same folks...as is the CHL...it just LOOKS different on the face, so they take it some places without even considering that fact...bureaucratic nonsense, inconsistency, and arbitrary rules...differs from one teller to another, much less one branch to another...but they got the money...soooooooooooooo...if it weren't legal...they wouldn't sell you both...and they like the money....

The use of the term "issued" does not imply either "automatic" or "free". Licenses and ID's are issued by various state and federal agencies. In order to get one, you often have to apply and pay a fee. And in the case of CHL's, there are additional requirements.

My response when someone (who has no business asking) asks me if I'm carrying is...
"Well, are you wearing a thong? I've got just as much right ask you that as you have to ask if I'm carrying!"

I had a similar situation this weekend...my daughter and I were coming back from the range and stopped by Outback to pick up an order my wife placed. The waiter type person comes to the car and asks if he should put it in the back seat and I said yes. As he opens the door I realize I didn't put the guns in the trunk and the targets we shot were sitting there too. I thought, crap, here we go to which he gets all excited and we talked about handguns and his recent shotgun purchase for skeet shooting. Good move on his part as I gave him some extra on the tip to help pay off his new purchase.
