Just took the class, should i do paper or online?

Post by Ishoot10mm »

Hi all,

I just took my CHL class last weekend. I started the online application a few days before the class but i didn't pay or submit anything and stopped at the employment application since i needed to find exact dates.

The question i have is, the instructor suggested anyone who started the online process and hadn't paid to just do the paper route. Should I do the paper route or do it Online and send whatever i need to send in that way? Is there advantages as to having it done online? Would it make it any faster or keep me in communication with the process?

I tried searching through everything for the answer but i wasn't turning up much.

1 more question if you don't mind. During the Employment application I had a question the instructor didn't seem interested in answering (i think because they were over classed and short on time). I have a Union job that i have been in for the last 5 years but i haven't worked for the union in about 4 years. So due to the lack of work I picked up a job at a Hobby Store and then with a Medical company a few months later. How would i list that? Also, with the Union job we get paid by different payrolls depending on who im working under, Does the application want me to list the Employer as in the Union or the Payroll company? Ultimately i was working FOR my union who call me for the job and send me out to do it but the payroll company can change.

Thanks SO MUCH! Im sorry for all the questions but i just want to do this right and be as accurate as possible.

Great site here and im glad i found it!

Dunno why you would want to do it on paper. Doing it online cuts out the need for getting anything notarized.

Ok, But i may be wrong here but the instructor was a Notary and signed the affidavit's

Is there another Notary that is going to be required?

In the class i filled out all the papers as if i was starting from scratch since its what the instructor recommended.

Certainly you can do it on paper, but someone in Austin will need to transcribe it into the computer. You will probably save a couple of weeks in wait time by doing it online----and then, it done, and you know it.

I see no advantage whatsoever to submitting a paper application. Think about the process. If you apply online, it is immediately in the DPS system. If you mail a paper application, it has to travel through the flawless postal system, then someone at DPS has to enter your information.
Perhaps this is just one of those cases of not trusting those "fancy new electronic things," like the few people you occasionally come across who prefer to have a paper paycheck mailed to them instead of direct deposit. Perhaps he feels that sending everything together (application and supporting docs) is better. But since everything is identified with you DL #, it all gets matched up at DPS anyway.

Doing it online, you are signing an affidavit (electronically), which means that they no longer required a notarized affidavit

Do it online, it will give you a checklist of stuff to send in, via paper mail.
Its easier and better

Employers, you have to list each source of a W-2 in other words, everyone who issued a paycheck. It bites when you work out of a Union that sends you to different employers. Technically the Union is a job referral service the company who pays you is your employer. I was IBEW before I retired and my five year employment record took up two and a half pages there was no job longer than 6 months.

Thanks for the help everyone! It makes perfect sense to do it online. Looks like that will be the way to go :cheers2:

Interesting. 6 months and 2.5 pages! WOW!. I guess im lucky i have been out of work for a while with them to keep it a little easier hahaha. I of course have all that paperwork and will have to decipher and put it into order.

Looks like i'll go through all that tonight :tiphat:

Do on-line whatever can be done and mail in only that which can't.
