What have we begun....

Post by OldSchool »

Lee turret has been (finally!) set up on a cleaned-off bench.

Pistol powder and primers were ordered today from Powder Valley (would've ordered rifle powders, but the price was already making us nervous). Yeah, we're trying out the Tula primer special.

Bullets were ordered today from Precision Delta.

We're not entirely fond of some of the equipment that came with the deluxe turret kit (primarily the auto-disk powder measure), so ordered some alternatives from Midway (on sale, of course).

2-300 .45 cases are being cleaned as this is written, and at least that many 9mm waiting their turn.

At what point do we become concerned with the path we've begun? :evil2:

Oh Old School, you have already passed the point of no return - - - you decided the powder measure that came with your kit wasn't what you wanted to use. You are already hooked all the reloading manufacturers have to do is reel you in.:

Welcome to the reloading brotherhood. :tiphat:

Be careful as this hobby is addicting... I was where you are at a year ago and now have a chonograph to check my loads, 3-5000 empty cases and have out grown my bench...

We have entered this venture here as well. From the wife's perspective.

First - the table construction... much planning and constructing - result a nifty rolling (lockable wheels) with a drop leaf so it can tuck into the office area when not in use. Drawers for storage and a "garage area" for the bigger items.

Second - setting up the die sets ... much dis-cussing with himself, looking in manuals, writing on bits of paper... put the Rube Goldberg machine in motion...the occasional interruption of using the kinetic bullet extractor (NOT ON THE WOOD FLOOR!!!) Repeat for next caliber

Result - a couple shiney boxes of boolits and a happy husband! Entertainment for all involved - It is all good! :hurry:

Thanks for letting us know we're in such excellent company! :cheers2:

We're starting with case prep (duh -- we have no powder or primers yet). You should have seen DynaBlue charge off on decapping a couple hundred M1 Carbine shells (with the primers either going to the floor or down the cavity in the press base -- which has no outlet, forcing some more hot-rodding)!
Cleaned about 500 45 and 9, so those get decapped today (I kinda prefer the reverse, but we wanted to get the cleaner working first).

And, of course, there was the "y'know, if we had this, it would go much faster" stuff, resulting in a MidwayUSA order today....

I'm glad I have more than one job....
