Company Policy

I know there are several threads about company policy against carrying, I finally took the time to look up what our policy was on the subject.

to set the stage if you will, I work in a smaller hospital (less then 100 beds) that is not 30.06 posted.

I managed to find 2 seperate policies that refered to weapons. the first seemed promising, the 2nd well... disturbing.

this first example is a list of things that are unacceptable while at work.
"9.Unlawful or unauthorized possession, display, or use of a dangerous or deadly weapon in the workplace;"

The 2nd is part of a "weapons control policy" which goes on to clearly say if you as an employee are found to be violating this rule, you will be escorted to HR to fill out your seperation notice.

"Generic Hospital Name, will be considered a weapons free environment, weapons will not be allowed on the Generic Hospital Name campus. Weapons will be defined as guns, knives other than pocket knives, clubs or any object that could be considered use full for self-defense or violance"

at least according to the wording of the policy parking lots are not off limits, I dont think I will bring up the issue in fear of them posting the hopsital correctly .

I guess it's open to interpretation but "campus" could also include the parking lot. Let's hope the Parking Lot Bill passes this time around.

I guess it's open to interpretation but "campus" could also include the parking lot. Let's hope the Parking Lot Bill passes this time around.

I left out the part of the policy where security is suppose instruct any non employee found with a weapon to return them to their cars, while still open to interpretation because it is not specific to employees, that along with the fact that we have no policy that gives the company the ability to search our cars leaves me feeling safe having it there.

Any chance this is a CHS facility? That sounds very similar to our policy at work, except that there is a stated exception for legal weapons in your vehicle.

...as an employee...they've got you banned...clearly...I'm rooting for the parking lot law for employees to be able to leave them in your car, thereby being armed to and from work...but I'm wondering how effective it will be in Texas...where they can fire you for almost any reason...time will tell...
...it's another example of punishing the innocent...making yet another rule to control the controllable ones...and , at the same time, making life easier on the uncontrollable ones...that's a weakness in our society...

The same thing I had to tell my wife about the weapons policy at her bleeding heart liberal workplace....

"Whats more important to you...Your job or your safety? How far do you think your job will go to protect you in the event you should need to defend yourself?"

You might get fired, but you won't get arrested or killed....
