Pro gun White-house!

Post by Beiruty »

The White House says tracking the bulk sale of high-powered rifles from U.S. border state gunshops that legally sell thousands of assault weapons that end up in Mexico each year is not an emergency, and has rejected a request from the U.S. agency that monitors weapons sales to do so without public review.

"...It's not against the law, and it's not going to be against the law, for you to buy 40, 50, even 100 of these weapons," ATF spokesman Scot Thomasson said, "and drive them around or even down to the border...."

...that'll be great news to the landowners who live down near the border :clapping: ..they feel like they're gonna need 'em any day now...they're living in a war zone and "collateral damage" is a reality to them...

Rule still expected to take effect
The White House decision doesn’t kill the rule and aides this week it will still likely go into effect in a few months. “It’s a question of timing,” said one administration official.

...not surprising...they have to consider not only what might solve or help the problem at hand, but what might it cost them politically or how can they leverage it to get more points on the poll....and the folks along our side of the border shake out last in those considerations...sad...

One decision makes the white house pro-gun about as much as taking a day off makes a plumber no longer a plumber.

I wont go as far as to call them pro-gun either, but what can you point to that they have done to label them as anit-gun? I just dont think that the issue of guns is a big issue to Obama one way or another (for or against), and I've not seen any evidence to point to the contrary. Everyone was quick to label him as a gun grabbing anti, but nothing to come from this administration yet has supported that notion.

He appointed a veritable who's who of gun grabbers and haters to cabinet positions, supreme court, etc.

That being said, about the only thing he's been moderate on is the gun issue. I'm sure most in his administration would LOVE to do something about guns. But they know it is a political loser, and they're already doing enough to help themselves lose the next election already.

:iagree:

The administration is being practical. Nothing more. I think they're still blocking the repatriation of US-made M1 carbines and Garands from Korea.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I say this as a strong supporter of 2a rights not a liberal. I think Obama is more Pro-Gun than he is given credit for, every time an opportunity has presented itself , Obama , in words at least , has been a supporter of our right. An example would be the Heller V. Chicago ruleing where he quickly came out in support of and this. He may not the a best friend of the 2a but I do not think he is going to come for my guns any time soon.

Maybe not, but he just might come after any of your magazines of over 10 round capacity if given half a chance.

I've certainly been (pleasantly so) surprised by the lack of attempts on rights infringement by the Obama administration. Hope he keeps it up...until 2012. Then we'll just find a new guy that we don't have to wonder about supporting our 2A rights or not.

If this eliminates the new rule, SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TELL THE NRA! I just got this 5 minutes ago via email. It's dated TODAY. i think all the White House did is say they could not do it WITHOUT public review. Don't think that will stop them.
