Hmm, I can't explain what they're saying. I took the class this summer (2010), paid $50, and the Cert says it expires 12/31/2011. So I will have to take the renewal course next summer (along with everybody else who currently have certificates).phrogg wrote: However, the confusion comes from the standard fees info on the DPS website that says:This implies a different answer than what you just gave. It states that I get a 1 year certificate if I take the class in an Odd year and a 2 year one if I take the class in an even year. I believe that what you stated is correct, but this is the point where I'm confused. It would work to my advantage, I'd get to pay only $50 and get a 2.5 year certificate instead of paying $100 and get a 1.5 year. Either way, I think its time to get the process started. The fee to become certified as an instructor is $100.00 for even years (a two year certificate) and $50.00 for odd years (a one year certificate).

I think it's a typo on the DPS website. The application link of the first page says it's $50 for 2010 classes and the certification expires 31-12-2011. The application also matches what sjfcontrol said.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Re: Process for becoming an instructor?
Answered my own question about the class scheduling by reading all the info at DPS. I didn't see an actual schedule for 2011, but 2+2=4 and I figured it out.
Sent off the paperwork and scheduled my fingerprinting for next week. Yeah, way ahead of the deadline (presumably in April again for 2011), but what the hey.
Planning on taking an NRA instructors course, NRA Range Officer course, and anything else I can jam into my schedule between now and next summer.

Does anyone know the backlog in Austin for the instructors course? How long is it taking to schedule your class once you apply?

My application process has shown "pending background check" since October. Kind of strange, since it was the exact same information as my CHL, which I applied for the same month, and got in 30 days.

I sent my app in second week of Jan this year and got my confirmation email yesterday. So it was about one month. Scheduled class for April.
