Best Home Defense

What is the best shotgun for home defense: Most are saying either the Moss 500 or the Remington 870: Any feedback is appreciated.
Also where can you fire a shotgun in Denton County ?

Most shooting ranges allow shotguns.

No such animal - with which one do you shoot best?
What's the best truck for pulling a trailer?

I know people want others to agree with them when they make a choice that involves speding lots of money, but seriouisly: just pick one and deal with it. There's no "best", becaue the gun/truck doesn't do the work. It's up to the operator.

...one thing to consider...you can get a used Winchester, Remington,Savage/Stevens, or Mossberg pump shotgun at a pawn shop for less than a new imported inferior quality gun...a lot of used ones on the market are $125-175...and most have another generation or two of good service in them...parts readily available...20 ga is enough power and any family member over about 8 can handle it...12 is a bit rougher on the back end...

And quite a bit rougher on the front end.

You cant go wrong with Mossy 500/590 nor Rem 870.

IMHO, I like M500 better with a standard stock because safety switch is located atop the tang, which I find more natural (note the Mossberg Maverick does NOT have this same safety - different trigger group).

For a shotgun with a tactical pistol grip stock, the safety button in trigger guard area like Remington 870 makes more sense.

But this is just personal preference based on previous gun handling. Try them both. To each his own.

IMHO, I believe the 870 to be the best all around pump shotgun ever made, when you factor in cost, function, versatility, and reliability...that being said, my HD shotguns are Mossberg 500's, not because they are less of a gun, or less expensive, I prefer the safety on the top, rather than behind the trigger. It is easier for me to operate and see without moving the gun off target, and that is the ONLY reason I prefer the 500 to the 870 in that particular application. It is ultimately about preference. Handle a few different ones and buy the one that suits you.

Yes, but because of the limited capacity, you need two of them for the multiple home invaders scenario
Whereas a SAIGA 12ga semi-auto with a 30 round drum, laser, flashlight, etc etc etc might suffice. "rlol"

I've been very pleased with this one. I feel like I got a lot of shotgun for the money.
