Want to buy gun for wife

Post by BrettW »

I'd like to surprise my wife with a gun she wants, but am trying to confirm I can truly fill out all FFL paperwork on my own so that she knows nothing about this until she's opening the box. I believe this is perfectly legal but cannot yet find a definitive answer.

Can anybody confirm or correct?

Thanks!

As long as your wife can legally posses a firearm, then you can buy her one as a gift. However, even though you would like to surprise her with a pistol, unless she already knows the make and model she wants and has tried one out, I would suggest going to a range that rents them and let her shoot some to find what she likes, fits her hand and works well for her.

Like Keith said, a firearm as a gift to a person who is eligible to own one is not illegal.
But getting your wife a random handgun without her knoweldge ranks right up there with buying her a new vacum or a new mop.

Keith, thanks. Yes, she has tried this pistol (she has shot her mom's on many occasions).

:iagree:
There is nothing like buying a weapon, and seeing that sign behind the counter that says "all firearm sales are final" and find out your wife does not like it.
Surprising her is a good thing, but surprise her with a home made "gift card" saying something like
"This Card gets you a trip the gun range to test various weapons to find the one that you want me to buy you"
or something like that.
MY wife bought me my first hand gun, and while I love her to death, she bought a name (Smith and Wesson) and on price - the Sigma 9mm. As I knew no better, I liked it, until I tried the Glock we bought her, one other and found out how hard the trigger was on mine.
It shot accurate, but, for me was too long (for concealment newbie) and too heavy of a pull.

That's great and I am sure she will be very happy with the gift. However, there is an up side to buying your wife a pistol she doesn't like, especially if it is one you do like. :evil2:

I should have provided more history in the original post.

This is not a complete surprise as in "hey, I love this double stack .45, so I'm sure you will too!". This is a gun that she has shot on many occasions, as her mom has one. She has wanted her own for a few years.

Anyway, thanks to all for the confirmation.

Then you're probably on track. As long as its random, and not a birthday/VD/anniversary present.

It happens to be random, but my wife is the type that would love a gun as a bday/VD/anniversary present.

Yes totally legal to purchase as a gift. But what kind of gun is this fine gift you speak of?

What says "I love you" better than providing your sweetie the means to protect herself?

I read the title of the post all wrong.

Here I was thinking, "Ok, what kind of gun store accepts wives as legal tender?" "rlol"

I read it a third way, like when someone says "I want to buy a rifle for deer." :nono:

I gave my wife a gun for valentines day 3 years ago.
