Last Call for Brass (this year anyway)

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I sent Dave Hughes an email about his stock of brass and got the reply below. If anyone needs brass (primarily 45 ACP, but some 40 S&W), you better contact him ASAP as his supply is getting low. I have a standing order with Dave, but I'm not taking any of his remaining stock so others can have it.

I've bought several thousand rounds of 45 ACP, 38 Super and 357 Mag. brass from Dave and I've always been very happy with it. (No, I don't get a commission. ) Dave’s email address is dph1hughes@yahoo.com.

Chas.

Dave’s Reply
You were correct in your assumption that supplies of brass might be getting low.
I have six 2000-piece boxes of 45ACP commercial brass; one 2100-piece box of mil-spec 45ACP; and I can "cobble together" two more 2000-piece boxs of commercial 45ACP with different headstamps 100 to the baggie. Price for a box is $80 (including shipping)

I also have one 2000-piece box of WINCHESTER 40S&W, $58 (including shipping), and a mixed box (separated into gallon baggies) of R-P and SPEER/CCI/*I* 40 S&W, also $58 (including shipping).

Thanks for the info Charles. I now have two boxes (4,000) of 45acp brass headed my way. For those that may be interested he still has a few boxes left.

I'm not quite half way into the 2,000 I got from Dave about a month ago.

Of the nearly 1,000 I've loaded I've only thrown out 1 case. That one probably would have been fine, but I just didn't like the ding in the side...

Just got this email from Dave. Sounds like it may really be Last Call.
It has been a long time since we have been in contact with one another. I am Dave from San Angelo, TX. You have either bought brass from me before, or at least asked me about it.

The price of junk/scrap brass is now up to over $1.00/pound, and there are “scavengers picking up anything that shines off the ground and selling it for junk. They are out dawn and dusk and all I find anymore are bits and pieces they miss. At 65 years old, I am no longer inclined to doing something that has now become a waste of time and gasoline, so I am offering everything I have in stock for immediate sale. I have the following to offer:

9MM+P Nickel cases 8000 pieces divided into two boxes of 4000 each for $110 per box
with shipping included.

9MM Nickel (not +P) 9000 pieces divided into three boxes of 3000 each for $75 per box
with shipping included.
=========================================================================

40S&W as follows: 6000 pieces of mixed headstamps, divided into two boxes of 3000 each for $100 per box with shipping included.

4800 pieces of Nickel cases (no SPEER) $,04 each ($40/1000),
PLUS shipping ($10/box). ((MAX per box is 3000 pieces.))

9000 pieces of SPEER/CCI/BLAZER brass, divided into three
boxes of 3000 each for $100 per box with shipping included.

600 pieces of SPEER Nickel cases $.04 each, plus shipping.

45ACP as follows: 2000 pieces Winchester family cases, $100, shipping included.

2000 pieces R-P cases. $100, shipping included.

2000 pieces SPEER/CCI cases. $100, shipping included.

2000 pieces of mixed headstamps. $100, shipping included.

Orders will be filled first-come first-served as I received them either by e-mail or 'phone. E-mail
address is dph1hughes@yahoo.com . Phone # is 325-949-2640. If I'm not available, please leave your phone # and I will return your call.

I bought the 2,000 each 45acp Win and R-P along with the 8,000 9mm+P so they are no longer available. He still has some other 9mm, 45acp and a lot of the 40's when I talked to him earlier today. If anyone is interested in any of these calibers I highly recommend you email him at the address listed in the original post. He is a nice person to conduct business with.

He also has some 9mm Rainier bullets for $75 per 1000 delivered. I just bought a case of 9mm bullets last week so I passed on them.

We are talking about range brass, right?
Is the brass tumbled, deprimed and thouroughly cleaned?

I've got more brass than I can possibly load, I can't afford to fill what I've got with powder and bullets. I used to collect all I could find, nowadays I sweep it up and put it in a 'brass' bucket for the next reloader that might use it. looks like I'm passing up a good money making opportunity!
I may start picking up .22 shells and surplus Berdan primed just to turn in as scrap. Personally, I think our non-profit range could use the proceeds but they don't seem to be interested in that particular income. The way our members shoot up rimfire, I could go home with about 3-4 lbs brass every visit. If I can scrape up 1000 cases of any one caliber, I guess I could sell those too. I'm gonna start bringing it all home from now on.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

The brass from Dave is clean but not decapped. I take his brass straight from the box and run in my 650 with no problems. He still had some brass left when I talked to him a few days ago. Anyone interested should give him a call to see what he has left in inventory.

I've still got plenty of .45 acp, but appreciate you posting this. I can't believe how much reloading supplies have gone up.

I've been couponing for health & beauty items and household cleaners & products, and I've been trying to show Dad how to do it. (I'm averaging 70% off retail cost.) He asked recently if the Sunday paper ever came with coupons for ammo & reloading supplies. :smilelol5: Unfortunately, there are none to be found.

It's always good when we can give eachother a heads-up on gun-related items, as it doesn't appear to be getting any cheaper.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.
