The Dallas Morning News posted something similar on Facebook, and I spent most of the morning getting my blood pressure raised by trying to talk sense into liberal hand-wringing types via comments.

My point I tried to make to them was that the average drunken party-going college student is NOT going to shell out over $100 for a CHL class, then actually sit through 12 hours of classroom instruction, followed by range time, and then mail in a check for $140 to the Texas DPS. Most college kids are too financially strapped for that to even be an option. The people I envision taking advantage of the proposed campus carry law would be faculty members, perhaps older more mature grad students, etc. Also, the law states you have to be 21 years of age in order to get a CHL. For most college students, that's not until your junior or senior year.

Yes, there may be some idiots that will make the rest of us look bad, but statistically that's been proven over the years that it's a VERY low percentage.

The armed drunken party animal-gunman of their fears is already armed on campus and surely doesn't care if it is legal to concealed carry on campus or not.

I try not to get too worked up, common sense doesn't enter into their thinking, but a good dose of reading their hysterics reminds me that there are a lot of them out there and the depths of their irrational fears...not to mention how much smarter and better than me they are...

I couldn't help but notice the poll is moving against them, they will take it down if it approaches 50%. My comments are as ER K. I might as well go home and argue with my sofa...

Nice nipple. Pretty cool gun too.

Honestly folks, have any of you hyperventilators ever done any of this research yourselves instead of just parroting whatever the Brady Bunch tell you to parrot? How about a little critical thinking here? Come on! You're supposed to be educated.

1) Crime statistics in Texas prove that Texas CHL holders commit crimes at a FAR lower rate than non-license holders. That is a FACT, backed up by the DPS, and you can take that to the bank.

2) We're talking here about allowing people who ALREADY have their CHL to carry into campus buildings. They are already allowed, by law, to carry on the campus - just not inside the buildings. This law proposes to give CHL holders the exact same rights they ALREADY HAVE inside their banks, their churches, their places of business, YOUR place of business, and their homes. I dare anyone here to show me any examples of bloodbaths caused by CHL holders in any of these places. You won't find them because, despite the Brady Bunch's foaming at the mouth rhetoric, THEY DON'T EXIST.

3) They're not going to happen inside your classrooms either. CHL holders must pass an FBI background check. They can have no record of psychiatric adjudication. They can have no felony or Class A or B misdemeanor convictions on their record. They owe no back taxes. They owe no unpaid child support. They don't beat their spouses and/or significant others. That is far better than some of your professors and fellow students can claim.

I love the comments/

"Pro gun websites lie with statistics"

"College students like to drink and go to sporting events" (90% of aggies consume less than 3 alcoholic drinks per week)

One poster was glad she escaped from Texas in the 60s. I hope she was exiled.

I don't even waste my time trying to post anything contrary anymore on a news site. Very little there resembles intelligent, discriminating, rational thought.

I have dated a few aggies, the other 10% makes up for the rest of them :biggrinjester:

Now how can you argue with logic like that....

Yes they do. :cheers2: :tiphat:

I wonder if any of those people realize that almost every CHL holder in Texas already has a gun and could choose to illegally walk into a campus building undetected and start a shooting rampage. They don't though. What makes them think that the right to carry there would change anything?

I don't bother with sites like that, but if I did, I would post a thank you to all the people who refuse to come to Texas. The last thing we need is a bunch of those nincompoops coming down here and screwing up the state. Seriously. Those bozos think a state income tax is a good idea. Shoot, some of them even think city income taxes are a good idea.

You REALLY need to investigate the "Fair Tax"

It has been stated that the murder rate per 100k people was FAR less in the old west than it is in any modern urban area.
