Gun Buster Sign in North Richland Hills

Post by rtschl »

Looking for a quick bite to eat with wife while running errands. Saw this Gunbuster sign at Sandy's Real Chicken Fried on Rufe Snow Drive. Since we were in a hurry, walked on in past the sign and took the pic when we left. Staff was extremely friendly and the food was good. But since they do not want my business, I do not plan to go back.

Don't ask them, but I wonder which state law they might be thinking of.

I would have done the same thing, go in and eat then never return. Just because it is not a legal posting the intent is still present so I will honor their wishes and spend my hard earned money elsewhere. I may have wriiten a short note on the back of the bill stating the positives of my experience there the negative has outweighed them, and leave a larger tip than normal for the waitress.

My niece's Doctor's office has that same sign posted at the receptionist window, printed on paper without the image, in English on one sheet of paper, and another sheet printed in Spanish. They may be right ... SOME State may have such a law. I don't plan to ask which State they are thinking about.

I will not point out to a business that they have an invalid sign. I do not want to correct their ignorance so that they can post a valid 30.06 sign. However, I will let a business that has a valid 30.06 know that they lost me as a customer. I just had not see that particular sign before.

Same here.

YEARS ago I made the mistake of pointing out to a place which wasn't allowed to post an enforceable 30.06 sign, but they posted a sign "No handguns allowed except by certified Peace Officers. Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law"
Several female employees there got involved in the conversation. The supervisor informed me loud enough for them to hear that since some government contract was involved, they could post "THAT sign" (She cited enough law that I knew she actually KNEW what the laws are, and then she gave me the secret CHL handshake and wink) So she was letting me know to just hush and let her have her "feel good" sign for the employees, even though they could not post an enforceable 30.06 sign at that location. I had to agree that there was no law forbidding them from posting THAT sign, and everyone there "felt better" ... than I left after winking back at the Supervisor.

Now I just keep my mouth closed and follow the appropriate laws, but I may anonymously put cities [or Counties] (police chiefs, Mayors, city attorneys city council, prosecutors etc) on notice of ordinances that need updating (in the interest of saving the Government money, my Taxes, from having to defend a Federal 1983 civil rights suit).

And I may let private businesses know they are excluding OVER a half million potential customers (including reciprocity) with the "you're NOT welcome mat," they have in front of their door if they have a valid enforceable 30.06 sign. They pay a LOT to advertise, then put a "don't come in" sign ... how much sense does that make?

I believe we have discussed this sign before. It is not applicable to someone with a CHL. It properly informs the person who hasn't a CHL that Texas has a Law prohibiting his carrying a handgun into the business. I do not know the history behind the sign. The employees and even the local manager may not be aware of the reasoning behind a decision by a corporate headquarters, as quite often orders are given without detailed explanations. If I were to guess a reason, I would suspect the posting is an attempt to preclude liability in the event a shooting were to take place on the business property. In some cases there maybe an insurance requirement. I know the sign isn't applicable to me. I don't let it upset me, nor do I crusade for its removal, and certainly would not suggest they post a 30.06 sign. I just enjoy my meal or shopping and press-on. Now if a business posts a 30.06, it shows me it has a definite anti-CHL culture, and I take my business elsewhere.
