Marlin Model 60 Scope Isssue

Post by UpTheIrons »

I was getting some much-needed trigger time in today, and some of it was with my Model 60. I noticed that about a hundred rounds in that my accuracy was dropping off. I thought it might have been the 25-30 mph winds today, but even adjusting for that wasn't working - even at 50 yards and less.

After I got home, I saw that the scope had moved back about a half inch. I'm using the standard tip-off mount that came with my Bushnell scope, and this is the second time this has happened. I normally run Winchester Xpert HV through it, but have also used a lot of CCI Mini-Mags, and even some of the atrocious Federal bulk stuff.

Is this something any of y'all have experienced? Have I just not clamped the mounts down tight enough? Should I use a drop or two of lock-tite in the mount grooves? Do I need to abandon HV ammo?

Inquiring minds need to know! :headscratch

You might check the groove dimensions on the rifle with a micrometer. Then you can make sure they are the same width & depth at the front and back. Measure about every half-inch, then you'll see if it's straight or not. It should measure .425" -.430" and the groove .395"

You never know until you measure.

Then check the mounts to see how well it fits the to the groove. If all that looks squared away, then I'd try the blue locktite. You could also add a pitcatinny rail, like the Leapers 1-piece mount . There's also some scope mount stops used for spring air guns. Pyramid air has them.

I think I found the solution, even though Lock-Tite sounds like more fun.

The Leapers Accushot mount ought to do it:
